Drawing on over two decades of expertise, Dr. Gilgore serves as a museum director and specializes in art, history and culture. Prior to embarking on her professional journey, she pursued an education at the Università degli Studi di Milano, Italy, where she obtained a doctorate in political science and history. To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Dr. Gilgore has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the American Alliance of Museums, the Connecticut League of History Organizations and the American Association for State and Local History.
Gilgore began her career as the assistant curator for the Arthur M. Sackler Foundation and assistant editor for the AMS Foundation for the Arts, Sciences and the Humanities in New York contributing to the publication titled, "Chinese Art: 1,000 Masterpieces from the Arthur M. Sackler Collections" published in 2000. She also served as the U.S. coordinator for the legendary curator of the Guggenheim Museum, Germano Celant, working on the exhibit and catalog, "Super Warhol" in 2003.
Gilgore was marketing director of the Connecticut Grand Opera and Orchestra, where she served from 2001 to 2008. Between 2009 and 2012, she joined the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk, Connecticut, an assistant executive director and later became deputy director. Since 2012, she has found much success as the executive director at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, where she is responsible for overseeing general museum operations, fundraising, and conceptualizing and managing programs and exhibitions that have received local, regional and national recognition.
Under Gilgore's leadership, the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum received multiple accolades and awards, including USA Today's 10 Best Holiday Historic Home tours in the U.S. in 2020 and 2021; an Award of Merit from the Connecticut League of History Organizations for the exhibition, "From Corsets to Suffrage: Victorian Women Trailblazers" in 2020; and a Leadership in History Award from the American Association for State and Local History for the exhibition, "The Stairs Below: the Mansion, Domestic Servants 1868-1938" in 2017. Both exhibitions were generously sponsored in part by CT Humanities.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, she has donated to local history organizations, UNICEF and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, among others. In a career filled with highlights, she is most proud of conceptualizing and developing programs based on strengthening communities, building dialogues, creating a space that is inclusive and accessible, and ultimately illuminating and elevating the human spirit with history, culture, and the arts. Gilgore aspires to utilize her passion and expertise in her specialty to further her goal of supporting and contributing to the welfare of national historic landmarks in the United States. Gilgore's family includes her daughter Chloe, an inspiring social worker, whom she is most proud of and husband Gavin McLeod an award-winning doctor specializing in infectious diseases.
