SAN ANTONIO, TX, July 25, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael L. Barnes has been included in Marquis Who's Who. At the age of 17, Mr. Barnes began his military service as a food inspector for the United States Army. Throughout the next 25 years he served in various positions with increasing responsibility, culminating with his promotion to CW4 as the regional director of food safety and quality assurance, Great Plains Regional Veterinary Command, where he established inspection guidelines and designed procedures for a 16-state region, supervised government grading and inspection personnel, ensured compliance with FDA food recall regulations, and organized microbiological criteria for food purchased for the Department of Defense. His military career took him to places around the globe that most would never experience, including Pakistan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Yeman, Afghanistan, Africa, Germany, Kazakhstan, Italy, Egypt, Okinawa, Guam, the Philippines, and many others. Upon retiring from the Army in 2005, Mr. Barnes joined HEB Grocery Company's Manufacturing Division.
Over the years, Mr. Barnes gained valuable expertise with HEB as a senior quality manager, and operations manager. Throughout his time with the organization, he maintained responsibility for shrink control, identified $200,000 in monthly shrink and inventory losses, and managed the daily execution of more than 50 flavors of ice cream and frozen desserts. In the ensuing years, Mr. Barnes also worked as the director of quality systems and regulatory affairs for Quality Bio-Resources, the corporate director of quality assurance for Sterling Foods, where he directed and managed all food safety programs, and the director of food microbiology and sanitation program for Ajinomoto Foods North America, through which he oversaw 10 manufacturing facilities across the continental United States.
Drawing on years of considerable experience, Mr. Barnes presently excels as the president and chief executive officer of Certified Quality Management Solutions LLC. An expert in his field, he holds a bachelor's degree in animal science and industry, as well as a master's degree in food science with a focus on food microbiology from Kansas State University. Additionally, he is a registered expert witness in food safety and microbiology and is a Certified Food Scientist through the Institute of Food Technologist, a Certified & Quality Auditor and Certified Food Safety & Quality Auditor with the American Society for Quality.
In order to stay abreast of changes in the field, Mr. Barnes aligns himself with the American Frozen Food Institute, the International Association for Food Protection, and the American Society for Food Quality. Outside of his work, he also dedicates himself to his community and those less fortunate through Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Legion, and the Boy Scouts. For his outstanding accomplishments, he was instrumental in Ajinomoto Foods North America earning the prestigious Black Pearl Award from the International Association for Food Protection. Other honors include Scout Master of the Year Award, Gamma Sigma Delta, Phi Tau Sigma, 1998 Outstanding Young Men of America, and has been inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit.
While his career has been filled with highlights, Mr. Barnes is most proud to have completed a master's degree, and to have been recognized by the American Society for Quality by being selected to sit on a board to rewrite certification exams for the former Certified HACCP Auditors credentials. Likewise, he was gratified to be asked to sit on the board of The American Frozen Food Institute, and to have written environmental programs that have made an impact in the industry. In the next five years, Mr. Barnes intends to enter retirement while remaining open to consulting.
