Dr. Crump, after completing her GED, sought a higher education at William Paterson University where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing. After completion of her undergraduate degree, Barbara earned a Master of Science in nursing with a Nurse Practitioner focus from Saint Peter's University, as well as a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing research from the University of Phoenix in 2016, her dissertation: "Exploring Nurses' Perceptions of Dignity During End-Of-Life Care."
As a Registered Nurse and Advanced Oncology Certified Nurse Practitioner, Dr. Crump began her career in nursing at The Veteran's HealthCare System within the field of medical oncology. Throughout the course of her career, Barbara worked as an Adjunct Professor at William Paterson University and Associate Professor of nursing at Felician University. She has excelled as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner within Columbia University Gynecological- Oncology in the management and treatment of women with cancer. She continues to work with United Healthcare, through which she provides preventative care, wellness, and health education.
To remain aware of developments affecting her field, Dr. Crump aligns herself with the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing, as well as the Oncology Nursing Society. Known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen, she dedicates herself to her community through the National Association of African American/Black Business and Professional Women's Group (Teaneck-Englewood. In given back to the community, the Crump Family Scholarship was started for nursing students at William Paterson University for the empowerment of students in delivering dignity care during end-of-life. Due to her wide range of knowledge, she has written professional articles for the Journal of Clinical Oncology and authored her own personal story titled "From GED to PhD: My Journey Toward Becoming an Extraordinary Woman," which has been one of the highlights of her career. Her story is of being a teenage mom and a high school dropout to her accomplishment of her Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing Research. Looking toward the future, Dr. Crump intends to empower students, implement her dignity model into more nursing settings and continue to educate others.
