BLOOMINGTON, IL, July 26, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Rev. Dr. Martin Mwongyera has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
For more than 25 years, Rev. Dr. Mwongyera has devoted himself to serving others as a member and a priest of the Catholic Church. Having joined Saint Patrick Catholic Church of Merna in Bloomington, Illinois in 2020 as a Parochial Vicar, he has also served as a Judge of the Peoria Diocese Tribunal since 2021. Rev. Dr. Mwongyera previously functioned as a Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of Peoria between 2015 and 2018.
Beginning his career in religious ministry in 1996 following his ordination to priesthood, Rev. Dr. Mwongyera went on to serve as a teacher and formator at St. Paul's Seminary, Rushoroza 1996-1998; Vocations Director of Kabale Diocese 1997-2001; Bishop's Secretary and Vice-Chancellor of Kabale Diocese 1998-2001; Lecturer and Formator at St. Mary's National Seminary, Kampala 2001-2002. He also served as a Chairperson of the Board of Governors of Bukinda Seminary; and Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board of St. Adrian's Seminary, Kabale, Uganda.
In Peoria Diocese, Illinois, Rev. Dr. Mwongyera has served a multitude of appointments as a Parochial Vicar at several Central Illinois area churches, including Immaculate Conception Church in Monmouth; Saint Anthony's Church in Spring Valley; Saint Joseph's Church in Peru; and the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Peoria. He also served as a chaplain at OSF Holy Family Medical Center in Monmouth, and as a Pastor at Saint Mary of the Woods in Princeville. Among other roles, Rev. Dr. Mwongyera was also the Judicial Vicar of Peoria Diocese and co-director of the Diocesan Tribunal.
Looking toward the future, Rev. Dr. Mwongyera aspires to continue serving his Church and local community. That is, to uplift God's people by bringing joy and peace in their lives through unceasing proclamation of the Good News. He also aims to maintain his involvement with the tribunal by working on annulment cases and other canonical services to the diocese. Throughout the course of his career, he has been most proud to serve as a judge of the Peoria Diocese Tribunal, through which he has made a considerable difference in the lives of those experiencing marital issues.
Rev. Dr. Mwongyera was originally ordained a priest of Kabale Diocese in his home country of Uganda in 1996. He subsequently served in his diocese until 2002, when he relocated to Belgium to pursue further education in Canon Law and Theology. After garnering a bachelor's degree in church law at the Catholic University of Leuven, he continued his studies by achieving a master's degree in Religious Studies, a Doctor of Canon Law, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Theology and Religious Sciences. In 2011, Rev. Dr. Mwongyera immigrated to the U.S.
Contributory to his decades of success in the field, Rev. Dr. Mwongyera is most grateful to his parents for their ongoing support and for teaching him the importance of faith as devout members of the Catholic Church in Uganda. Most importantly, they instilled in him the values of hard work, discipline, and persistence. Rev. Dr. Mwongyera also attributes his good fortune to the work of numerous missionaries from Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada and other parts of the world that served at his home parish and diocese of Kabale, Uganda. These missionaries sparked his religious curiosity that led to his initial involvement in the church, the vocation to priesthood and openness to serve wherever there is greater need anywhere in the world.
