As a child, Ms. Towns Chapman found herself challenging authority, including her teachers. In light of her tenacity, she pursued a career in activism as she came of age. Early on she worked with PETA as well as other animal rights organizations. She used her voice working as a deejay, ending that role with 103.5 WEZL. Drawing on her father's creativity, she found her voice again as she chartered buses to war protests in Washington, D.C. and furthered her community work by organizing rallies through ThinkingPeople, which she founded. Over the years, she developed the group from 75 members to more than 300. Driven to make a change, she presently excels as South Carolina director for Brady: United Against Gun Violence.
In her work with Brady, Ms. Towns Chapman liaises with various activist organizations, reaches out to professionals who are interested in supporting her cause, and ensures that gun violence prevention events are promoted on social media. In conjunction with her activism, she serves as vice president of the Charleston County Democratic Women, and in years past, she was president of the South Carolina Working Families Party, a co-chair of Our Revolution South Carolina and vice president of the Charleston chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union. An expert in her field, she attended the College of Charleston. Ms. Towns Chapman contributes to groups including Greenpeace, the ACLU and the Anita Hill Celebration.
To commemorate her accomplishments, Ms. Towns Chapman has been honored many times, earning the Triumph Award from the South Carolina National Action Network, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Award from South Carolina Representative Wendell Gilliard and Mayor John Tecklenburg of Charleston, and the Frederick Douglass Thunder and Lightning Award from the South Carolina Progressive Network. Similarly, Ms. Towns Chapman was named Best Activist in the Charleston City Paper and Distinguished Area Director through Toastmasters International.

She started out by chartering buses to Washington, D.C. and hosting small rallies to draw attention to the group's opposition to the war in Iraq. ThinkingPeople grew to become larger than she had anticipated. She held events informing hundreds of locals. Looking toward the future, Ms. Towns Chapman aims to work toward, among other things gun violence prevention including a nationwide assault weapons ban and speak publicly on a national scale in order to seek converts into activism.
