An expert in group work, clinical practice and social work education, Dr. Glassman has distinguished herself as an educational leader for more than 50 years. She embarked upon her own education as a philosophy major at Hunter College, originally intending to become a mathematics teacher. Having been active in student governments throughout her youth, Dr. Glassman reoriented toward work in student personnel administration.
To prepare for her career in educational leadership, Dr. Glassman earned a Master of Arts in college student counseling and personnel services at the Teachers College of Columbia University. After graduating she joined the House Plan Association of City College as an assistant director of their group work program and became director. Following this accomplishment, she attained a Master of Social Work and a Doctor of Social Work from the Adelphi University School of Social Work.
In 1984 Dr. Glassman joined the faculty of Adelphi University School of Social Work and later became Director of Field Instruction. In 1993 she joined the Wurzweiler School of Social Work of Yeshiva University as Director of Field Instruction. She was the co-founder in 1986 of the Council of Social Work Education annual Field Education Symposium, and the North American Network of Field Educators and Directors. She has been an active member of the International Association for Social Work with Groups since its inception in 1978. Dr. Glassman served as a member of the CSWE commission that codified social work competences. She has authored several volumes on group work and social work field education and has presented various papers at national and international conferences. From 2014 to 2021, she was the principal investigator of two US Department of Health and Human Services HRSA training grants totaling $3.3 million to train 245 social work master's degree students to work clinically with high-risk adolescents in New York City. Dr. Glassman is a clinical professor at Wurzweiler and as a licensed clinical social worker maintains a private psychotherapy practice with individuals, groups, and families.
Since 2021, Dr. Glassman has functioned as the interim dean for the Wurzweiler School of Social Work Yeshiva University. In this capacity, she is responsible for managing the school of social work, comprised of some 1,000 students. Additionally, as part of her dedication to her profession, she is a member of the National Association of Social Workers, the Council on Social Work Education and a founding member of the New York City Chapter of the International Association for Social Work with Groups.
When she is not working, Dr. Glassman enjoys spending time with her husband Ron and children Danny and Alex. She is an avid baseball fan, attends the theater regularly and travels with her family.
