With more than 40 years of expertise in criminal law and procedure to his credit, Mr. Antkowiak has found success as a skilled attorney in practice before a wide variety of state and federal courts. To prepare for his career in legal service, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Saint Vincent College in 1974 and a Juris Doctor, magna cum laude, from Harvard Law School in 1977. After his graduation from law school, he began his career as an Assistant United States Attorney and established his private practice in 1983. Notably, while working for the Justice Department, he received an Award for Superior Performance in 1980 and 1983.
Helping to train future professionals in the legal field, Mr. Antkowiak became a professor at the Duquesne University School of Law between 2002 and 2011. During his tenure, he was honored with an Excellence in Teaching Award in 2007, 2008 and 2011. During this time, to gain further expertise in his field, he published eleven law review articles and authored a book on Pennsylvania criminal procedure. Additionally, Mr. Antkowiak lent his expertise as an editor and principal author for "Pennsylvania Suggested Standard Criminal Jury Instructions." He attained an honorary Doctor of Law from Saint Vincent College in 2011 and was bestowed with the Alumnus of Distinction Award in 2002.
Mr. Antkowiak joined Saint Vincent as a general counsel, professor and chair of the Criminology department, where he continues to excel into the present. In this capacity, he advises the College and the Archabbey on any legal matters while teaching Criminology and law courses for the institution.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Antkowiak intends to continue his work serving Saint Vincent College and the Archabbey to the best of his ability. His goal is to teach the future generation of lawyers effectively, preparing them for a career in law and to make necessary changes to the judicial system. He also assists other attorneys in the appeal of complex criminal cases at the state and federal level.
