KISSIMMEE, FL, July 29, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. R. LeWayne Johnson, PHD, LLM, JD has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Johnson is the Chief Executive Officer of The Florida Coalition to Prevent Veteran Homelessness, Inc., an organization that he founded in 2021 for the purpose of preventing Veterans' Homelessness and ending Veterans' Homelessness across Florida.
Since 2020, Dr. Johnson has been also active with the Walden University Chapter of the Fulbright Association where he has served in a Pro bono capacity as the acting Director of Compliance. During this tenure, he spearheaded an effort to partner with the Wounded Warriors' Program to raise awareness and support for U.S. and Canadian wounded military service men and women who were homeless and suffering from PTSD. Additionally, he manages and ensures administrative compliance with respect to interpreting and following international guidelines and regulations for the Walden University Chapter of the Fulbright Association. As an injured veteran who served as a first responder in Saudi Arabia (1991), he also serves in a Pro bono capacity as Director of the Homeless Veterans' Program for the Mercy Foundation in Kissimmee, FL.
Another of Dr. Johnson's concurrent roles is that of Deputy Assistant Program Manager of International Programs for the U.S. Department of the Navy. He has held this job since 2013. In this capacity, he manages the acquisition of U.S. Navy training flight simulators for international programs such as the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, SH-60 Seahawk, and the E2-C/D Programs for Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, France, and Japan, respectively. He has also managed the acquisition of U.S. Navy-Marine training flight simulators for the Presidential Helicopter Program (HMX-1). Dr. Johnson has also served as a Public Defender in 2003 and recently as Director of Public Relations for the Golden Key International Honor Society in 2019 where he was instrumental in starting a "GoFundMe" effort for victims of Hurricane Dorian in 2019. Earlier appointments include work in U.S. Department of Navy (DoN) logistics from 1996 through 2013 and a position as a personnel management specialist in the DoN from 1988 until 1996.
An exceptionally broad academic background is also part of Dr. Johnson's portfolio. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PHD) in Public Policy and Administration from Walden University where he graduated summa cum laude in 2012. He also holds a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Taxation qualification, cum laude, from St. Thomas University College of Law, where he graduated in 2006. Dr. Johnson also holds a Juris Doctor (JD) from the Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law at Barry University, which he earned in 2003.
In addition, Dr. Johnson holds two master's degrees, including a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Indianapolis and a Master of Arts (MA) in Public Administration from Webster University-cum laude. He earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in psychology from Aurora University and completed coursework at Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee. Notably, Dr. Johnson is a 33 year retired Army (Senior Chief Warrant Officer) military Veteran. He also served honorably in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
Dr. Johnson has been recognized with several commendations across his career, including the Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congressman Darren Soto for heroic service to the United States in the global war on terrorism in 2022. He was honored and recognized by Congressman Darren Soto as a "Distinguished Leader In Central Florida" for Black History Month in the U.S. House Congressional Record H1121: 2020. He was also inducted into the Library of Congress for military achievements in 2021 and was a Bronze Star Recipient of the U.S. Army in 1991. Dr. Johnson has two Meritorious Services Medals (MSM) and two global war on terrorism medals. Dr. Johnson studied at Aurora University on scholarship and attended Lane College, a historically Black educational institution, with financial assistance related to his musical and academic abilities. He is gratified that younger family members, including his own daughters, found inspiration in his example to pursue their own academic achievements. His youngest daughter is a Naval Officer and graduated with a medical degree (MD) from the Uniform Services University of the Health Sciences. His oldest daughter has a Master's degree, and holds a management position as a Financial Program Manager in Budget Policies. His wife of forty years has a MBA and, is a retired federal employee after 30 years of service.
Dr. Johnson found inspiration in his grandmother's example. She was a midwife but never realized her dream of becoming a nurse or a doctor due to racial barriers, and he credits her work ethic and empathy for others as motivating forces. He was inspired to attend law school due to the gross injustice that he realized being born and raised on a cotton-farm in the Jim Crow south. The gruesome, yet unsolved murder of his uncle in Mississippi was his biggest inspiration to study law. He also recognized education as a higher calling and a catalyst for professional and personal endeavors; he was the first in his family to earn a college education. Moreover, Dr. Johnson selflessly assists others by partnering through The Florida Coalition to Prevent Veteran Homelessness, the Mercy Foundation and the Salvation Army to provide support in the form of shelter, clothing, food, and mental health treatment to those who served the nation. After he retires from the U. S. Department of the Navy in the near future, Dr. Johnson plans to maintain his status at the Florida Coalition to Prevent Veteran Homelessness and the Fulbright Association.
