Drawing on over four decades of diverse expertise, Rev. Reed specializes in his knowledge of chemical dependency and gospel. He pursued an education at Walla Walla College, where he obtained an AA degree in 1994. He continued his academic effort at the University of Washington, earning a Bachelor of Science with distinction in psychology in 1997.
Rev. Reed began his career working as a union painter for District Council 36 in Los Angeles CA and Clark Co Painting in Oregon before serving as a general contractor for Master Craftsman Painting and Restoration in Washington in the 1998 period. Since then, he has s garnered experience at various organizations with a variety of roles, including a teaching assistant for a work ethics camp with Pierce College at McNeil Island, a research assistant for the National Institute of Drug Abuse, a drug counselor and harm reduction specialist at Cocoon House, and a harm reduction specialist at Peace for the Streets by Kids from the Streets nonprofit organization.
As of 2018, Rev. Reed has been credentialed with northwest district Assembly of God church and, among other things, as a recovery coach at Vision Hope Center. He is responsible for Bible teaching, educating students on developing their skills in preparation for their calling in the different ministries and reading scriptures for the main pastor on Sundays. Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Rev. Reed contributes his time and services to various causes and organizations, including the Everett Vision Hope Center, the marijuana policy project, and the Assembly of God church, where he is dedicated to helping people with addiction problems to establish a better and more decent life.
Among his professional accomplishments Rev. Reed is proud to have completed his Bachelor of Science with distinction in psychology from the University of Washington at the age of 47, especially after being incarcerated for five years for selling small amounts of marijuana. Additionally, he is gratified to have received a certificate of achievement from the National Institute of Drug Abuse in 2005. He attributes much of his success to his resilience and his Christian faith. Looking towards the future, Rev Reed aspires to create a discipleship program to help people who are recovering from addiction change their lives for the better and hopes to develop new and improved treatment paradigms for addiction and his capacity as a minister with knowledge of addictions.
He is currently working on a book chronicling his life about overcoming obstacles. At the age of 18 he shot himself in the abdomen. Later that year he spent three months in the salmon building at Norwich State Hospital, and later became addicted to heroin. The book title will either be "From the Penitentiary to the University" or, "From Foolish to Faithful."
