DENVER, CO, August 03, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Tyler Veron Kanwai has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Kanwai established his restaurant, TK's Surf and Turf Kitchen, in Denver in 2020. Offering many classic dishes, including shrimp, lobster tails, crab, crawfish and other seafood choices, including his signature plate called "The Works," he ventured into restaurant ownership during the COVID-19 pandemic, having long since decided to enter the field. Seeking supplemental income after his roommate had moved out, he began experimenting with various seafood recipes passed down by his father on friends and family. Four years later, Mr. Kanwai left his job with Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and secured a location to open TK's.
Though he had little professional experience in entrepreneurship, Mr. Kanwai relied on his cooking skills to lead him to success. Additionally, he credits the influence of his father, a former chef, who taught him much about the field. He is also grateful for the help of his stepfather, Alphonso McDonald who helped him find and remodel the location for TK's in addition to his family and friends who all assisted him in preparing his restaurant for its grand opening. Currently recognized as Colorado's first black-owned seafood restaurant, Mr. Kanwai's goal is to transition his innovative-casual eatery into a franchise operation. Over the past two years, TK's has accommodated guests from multiple states and abroad. He even commonly serves celebrities, professional athletes, musicians, politicians, and various social influencers.
Garnered a great deal of exposure, TK's has been featured on several social media sites, on local television and in several professional publications. Of all the recognition that the restaurant has received, Mr. Kanwai noted TikTok for making him an overnight success. "The Denver Food Scene" posted a video highlighting his signature plate, it quickly received over a million views in less than 24 hours. TikTok's chief executive officer, Shou Zi Chew subsequently mentioned Mr. Kanwai's restaurant in an interview on Bloomberg about the vast impact their platform can have on small businesses.
Crediting much of his success to his Christian faith, mother, Tina McDonald, and siblings. Mr. Kanwai is a devout member of Odom Memorial Church of God in Christ in Denver, CO. He was taught to be a leader and independent self-starter, so he always strived to perform to the best of his ability. In high school, he served as a positive role model for his peers, and was even voted as the class president. After high school he attended Metro State University, where he began pursuing various endeavors in entrepreneurship.
