BRONX, NY, August 05, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Karen Allen has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Leading a diverse and rewarding career, Ms. Allen began working in the fashion industry on Seventh Avenue in New York City two decades ago. Employed by several different design houses, she eventually landed a position with Giorgio Armani where she garnered extensive experience in quality control and alterations. Presently, Ms. Allen is a prominent freelance designer and specialist in alterations as the founder and chief executive officer of Designs by Karen. Over the years, she has accrued numerous private clients, as well as large contracts for several off-Broadway plays, including "42nd Street," "110 Under the Sun" and "The Country Wife."
While maintaining her freelance business, Ms. Allen shifted some of her focus after giving birth to her daughter and discovering how different the learning process was for her in comparison to other children. Returning to college to better understand the educational process, she realized that her daughter was a tactile learner, which relies on touch, feeling and movement. After earning two degrees in education, Ms. Allen collaborated with a team of producers, musicians and engineers and founded Mrs. Allen's Patty Cake. An online resource that promotes educational materials to help sharpen children's skills in the classroom, her website offers interactive songs and videos, weekly activities, daily positive affirmations and educational blogs.
A civic advocate and cancer survivor who lost a child to pediatric cancer, much of Ms. Allen's nonprofit contributions have focused on helping children suffering from the disease. She has been involved with several related organizations, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and S.A.V.E.D 4 Life Cancer Corporation. Ms. Allen has also created positive affirmation designs for t-shirts, journals, activity packets and bonnets for children with cancer.
Born in Chicago, Ms. Allen graduated from Robert A. Waller High School before serving nine years in the U.S. Army and the Army Reserve. Inspired by theater, art, dance, music and fashion, she went on to receive an Associate of Science in fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in 2003. Ms. Allen subsequently studied at the College of New Rochelle where she achieved a Bachelor of Arts in education in 2008 and a Master of Science in special education in 2013.
In 2001, Ms. Allen was featured in an article by the New York Daily News highlighting her career as a designer. Ms. Allen also received recognition for organizing and planning the Black History Month Meal for the U.S. Army.
