Marquis Who's Who Recognizes Norma Annette Avitua-Ovalle for Excellence in Nursing and Administration

    SAN ANTONIO, TX, August 09, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Norma Annette Avitua-Ovalle has been included in Marquis Who's Who. A registered nurse for more than 35 years, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle joined Methodist Healthcare System in San Antonio as a oncology staff licensed vocational nurse, pre-employment nurse and advanced to Registered nurse as surgical ICU nurse, employee health coordinator, Nurse Leader Nurse Administrator, and Nurse manager. She is proud of her success over the past 22 years and for the opportunity to serve patients for such a respected organization. Ms. Avitua-Ovalle's facility is notably recognized as the preferred health care provider in all the South-Central Texas community.

A former licensed vocational nurse and staff sergeant in the U.S. Army for 10 years, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle's career in the military also included deployment during Operation Desert Storm. She also spent several years as a registered nurse in a civilian capacity at a level one trauma facility as performance improvement organizational manager for trauma services and a nurse manager of a medical renal unit. As a local community member, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle is very active in her church and currently serves as a catechist for the adult confirmation courses at Saint Dominic Catholic Church.

Ms. Avitua-Ovalle decided to pursue a career in nursing due to her passion and devotion for human service. She has a great level of respect for the industry and believes that her success as an administrator is due to her personality and her trustworthiness when providing care to patients. In the coming years, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle aims to begin developing a leadership module so that she can help middle nurse managers become better leaders. In doing so, these influential health care professionals can help make more of an impact on the lives of others.

Ms. Avitua-Ovalle earned a Bachelor of Science in nursing at the University of Texas at Arlington in 2014. She also obtained a Master of Business Administration in health care management at Our Lady of the Lake University in 2018. She is currently pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in business and leadership to conclude May 2023. Ms. Avitua-Ovalle is a licensed vocational nurse and registered nurse, and she completed a chief nursing officer certification through the Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses in April 2022.

To further enhance her career in health care, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle is a member of the American Nurses Association, the American Organization for Nurse Leadership, Texas Nurse Association, International Association of Hispanic Nurse Faculty, National Association of Hispanic Nurses and the National Society of Leadership and Success. Member of the Alpha-Chi, and Delta Mu Delta, and mentor for National Hispanic Health Foundations. Ms. Avitua-Ovalle holds elected positions as the secretary for the Texas Nurses Association District 8, and National Association of Hispanic Nurses, San Antonio Chapter President. As part of the NAHN S.A. Chapter Organization, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle successfully established a Relaxing Trauma outdoor garden on the campus of University Hospital during the pandemic, which served as a place for trauma surgeons to rest, rejuvenate, and meditate during difficult days and hectic schedules. She has also supported the S.A. community in gun lock safety distribution to curtail accidental shootings. She continues to work and educate increased awareness of Alzheimer's Disease as a partner with AHEAD Study and Fatty Liver Disease with SNOW Company.

Most recent, Ms. Avitua-Ovalle received scholarship from IAHNF, a first recipient of the organization. She was a two-time nominee for inclusion among the Best 25 Nurses of South-Central Texas. Recipient of Ruth Stewart Nurse Imagemaker Award of 2022. Ms. Avitua-Ovalle was also decorated with several accolades for her contributions to serving her country, including the Army Achievement Medal from the U.S. Army.
