Dr. Rahmo has earned distinction in the field of stem cell biology research for more than a decade, having followed his passion toward its conclusion in the co-founding of SMSbiotech, a biotechnology company that utilizes stem cells to advance the field of regenerative medicine. As the company's current chief scientific officer, he is responsible for research and development, as well as coordination with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to meet the stringent regulations required of new medical therapies. Previously, he served as SMSbiotech's chief executive officer from 2015 to 2020 and as visiting research scientist at Western University of Health Sciences in California.
Born in Syria, Dr. Rahmo decided at the age of 13 to pursue a profession as a scientist; he was fascinated by the world around him and took a great interest in exploring the underlying truth of different facets of life. He pursued a higher education in the United States and Switzerland, obtaining a degree in biological chemistry from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich in 1988 and a PhD in biochemistry and molecular biology from the University of Southern California in 1994.
Dr. Rahmo immigrated to the United States in 2013, when he was forced to leave Syria due to civil war. Before leaving his home, he established the laboratory for genetic diseases at the faculty of medicine at Damascus University. Followed by establishing the National Commission for Biotechnology, a public institution dedicated to the study of biotech, and served in its leadership from 2004 to 2013. He was active with the High Council for Scientific Research, the highest authority on research in Syria. During that period, he also worked extensively in academia, serving as an associate professor of the International University for Science and Technology, a private university in Al-Sanamayn, Syria.
Known for his scholarly output, Dr. Rahmo has published numerous journal articles related to various subjects of medical biotechnology. He holds several patents in stem cell technology, namely for compositions and methods using stem cells. He holds a certification for the course Making Biologic Medicines for Patients: The Principles of Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology through edX, and he is active with the American Thoracic Society and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Notably, his successes were recognized with a leadership award from Health 2.0.

The resulting therapy will utilize these stem cells to treat people suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
