Dr. Bhandal holds a PhD in Nutrition and a Master of Science in Nutrition from American Holistic College of Nutrition, a Doctor in Naturopathy and a BS in Nutrition from Clayton College of Natural Health in Birmingham, AL, and a Master of Science in Organic Chemistry a BS in Chemistry (with a minor in Physics and Math) from an institution in India. Dr. Bhandal is also a Board-Certified Naturopathic Doctor through the ANMCB and a Board-Certified Naturopathic Practitioner through the California Naturopathic Certification Board. Additionally, he received certifications through the American Society for Clinical Pathology and completed Healthy Eating Training through Harvard University.
During the earliest stages of his career, Dr. Bhandal gained valuable expertise in the field of medical education as a chemistry professor in India for nine years. He then served as a toxicologist for the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey for five years, and as a CDC coordinator on the Genetic Disease Testing Program. From 1989 to 2013, he was a laboratory director and scientist with the California Genetic Disease Screening Program through the California Department of Public Health before retiring in 2013. Dr. Bhandal also contributed to his field as a research and teaching specialist at the University of Medicine and Dentistry in New Jersey, and a teaching assistant in chemistry at UC Davis.
In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Dr. Bhandal aligns himself with the American Society for Clinical Pathology, and the California and American Naturopathic Medical Associations.
Due to his vast breadth of knowledge, Dr. Bhandal has authored dozens of research papers on genetic disease testing in newborns, as well as "STEM: The Future of America" in 2017. In light of his professional accomplishments, he received the Higher Achievement Award from the ANMA in 2021, the Outstanding Performance and Contribution to the Genetic Disease Program in 2011 and the Genetics Screening and Advancement Leadership Team Award in 2008 from the California Department of Public Health.
Well regarded for his many accomplishments, he is most proud of the recognitions he has received throughout his long and fruitful career, owing to his significant contributions to the fields of public health and genetics.
Dr. Bhandal attributes his success to his mother, who supported him no matter what. He was motivated to thrive to make his mother proud, but he also credits his achievements to his wife and children, who encouraged him to keep going. Looking toward the future, Dr. Bhandal hopes to expand his naturopathic practice and write more books on science and technology, including how to improve secondary school education system globally.
Dr. Bhandal has three daughters: the eldest is an attorney, the middle daughter holds a PhD, and the youngest daughter is an MD.
