ROCHESTER, MN, August 10, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Walter Menning has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Starting in 1962, Mr. Menning served honorably in the U.S. Army as an officer in the Corps of Engineers for more than six years. He served as a platoon leader during Operation Shotgun during the early stages of the Vietnam War and as a company commander preparing his unit to deploy to Vietnam in February of 1966. Prior to his service, he earned a Bachelor of Science in engineering from the United States Military Academy in 1962. Mr. Menning subsequently attained a Master of Science in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Sloan School of Management in 1970.
Mr. Menning began his career as a systems engineer and marketing representative for IBM in 1970. He went on to join the healthcare industry in 1973 as the director of information systems for Brigham and Women's Hospital and as the vice president of information systems for Rush University Medical Center in 1977. In 1988, he maintained involvement as the vice chair of information services for the Mayo Clinic and was distinguished with emeritus status in 2010. In 1997 he was honored as the recipient of the CHIME-HIMSS John E. Gall Jr. CIO of the Year Award. As part of his commitment to the field, Mr. Menning has served as a chairperson for the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, for which he is a lifetime member and Fellow.
In addition to his main career endeavors, Mr. Menning served on the advisory board for the Learning is Forever Program at the Rochester Community and Technical College. An expert in management and organizational development, as well as information technology, he credits his success to the support he received from his family at a young age. He is also grateful for his propensity for persistence, priding himself on doing whatever is necessary to complete a job. Looking toward the future, Mr. Menning plans to complete his estate plan for his family and intends to continue working with the Learning is Forever Program.
