Supported by more than 40 years in journalism, media and communications, Mr. Kleven is a recognized personality in farm broadcasting. Early in his career, he was aligned with KDHL Radio in Faribault, Minnesota. From there he became farm broadcaster at KMNS, Sioux City, Iowa; KTIC Radio in West Point, Nebraska and the Waitt Farm Network, Omaha, Nebraska. He also broadcast for the Minnesota Farm Network in Minneapolis and the Iowa Agri-Business Radio Network in Des Moines, Iowa. In 2017, he became a columnist for Messenger Newspapers — a role that continues to the present day. Mr. Kleven pens a monthly column focused on memories of growing up in rural southern Minnesota.
Mr. Kleven's educational background consists of studies completed at Brown Institute in 1972 and Mankato State College. He is a past president of the National Association of Farm Broadcasting. Additionally, he serves on the board of the West Concord Historical Society and also on the WCHS Foundation board.
In recognition of his expertise in the industry, Mr. Kleven was featured in Agri Marketing Magazine in 2005 and has been honored with various farm broadcasting awards for outstanding reporting both nationally and statewide. He was named Media Person of the Year in Nebraska in 2000 and on a national level, won numerous Excellence in Ag Reporting Awards plus being recognized for his agricultural markets reporting.
