Brett Sulonen Excels as a Professional Trainer of Nearly One Decade

    DELAWARE, OH, August 11, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Brett Sulonen has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As a young boy of 11 or 12 years old, Mr. Sulonen experienced his first major injury. He recalls being frustrated by not receiving the level of care that he had expected. As a student athlete at the time, his injury was particularly damaging to his quality of life, but he was misdiagnosed with a torn rotator cuff for a number of years. As time went on, he seemed to have sustained a major injury every year through high school, which necessitated his spending a great deal of time in physical therapy to recover. That experience prompted him to learn more about athletics and athletic medicine. Years later, when the time came for him to choose his occupation, he looked into the general area of rehabilitation, but decided upon athletic training to draw upon his personal experience and use his skills to help others.

To prepare for his career, Mr. Sulonen earned a Bachelor of Science in strength and conditioning from the University of Findlay in 2010 and a master's degree in athletic training from the University of Findlay in 2011. He took his first steps as a professional trainer with Lakewood Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine in 2011, holding that role for one year before joining PT Services Rehabilitation, Inc., where he remains to this day. He also holds a number of certifications that aid him in assisting clients, such as an IMPACT Trainer Certification, earned in 2014, an athletic trainer certification, earned from the Ohio Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Athletic Trainers Board in 2012, and a Certified Athletic Trainer accreditation, earned in 2011.

Looking back, Mr. Sulonen is grateful to his mentor, his own physical therapist, because of the specialty work that he did on Mr. Sulonen's shoulder. That experience is part of what motivated Mr. Sulonen to pursue the rehabilitative side of medicine.

Mr. Sulonen's advice to the next generation who wants to work in the same field is that the profession is constantly evolving and improving, "so get a master's degree and be prepared to work for low pay at first. Don't give up. It's a very hard occupation considering what people still don't know about them and what they are able to do but the grind will eventually pay off."

Though Mr. Sulonen plans to leave the educational side of his job, the contributions he has made thusfar will undoubtedly continue to shape the next generations of professionals, and contribute to the overall well-being of clients for many years. It is a legacy that he can take very justifiable pride in as he looks forward to the next stage of his career.
