Dr. Davis received the City of New York Stop The Violence Award from then Mayor David N. Dinkins.
BROOKLYN, NY, August 12, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Diane Davis has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having been in practice for more than 30 years, Dr. Davis has dedicated her career to helping others who have mental health problems. She began her advocacy work as a volunteer in the Coney Island community in 1982 and noticed there were many children on the street during the summer. She connected with her government officials to create a city council-funded summer camp and subsequently worked for the needs of the local schools. She advocated for the inclusion of computer classes and for a Head Start program, eventually becoming a legislative aide for the state senate of her district, Martin Solomon, who supported her work for the needs of the community. She decided to pursue her education in social work and counseling to continue her advocacy work.
Prior to embarking upon her professional journey in mental health care, Dr. Davis earned a Master of Science in human services from Lincoln University in 2000. Following her graduation, she began her career as a mental health practitioner for Heartshare Human Services of New York until becoming a licensed mental health counselor. She served as the program director for HeartShare Human Services of New York from 2003 to 2009. Additionally, she is a mental health practitioner for the Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island and Talkspace.com.
To improve her expertise in the field, Dr. Davis attained a Doctor of Philosophy in human services and mental health counseling from Capella University in 2014. Following this accomplishment, she served as a mental health clinician for Brooklyn Community Services from 2014 until 2018. During this period, she began her present role as a mental health therapist and the chief executive officer for the Family Preservation Services of New York Corporation in 2016. She specializes in working with patients with depression, grief, post-traumatic stress disorder and children with delinquent behaviors. To remain aware of developments affecting her field, she is also a member of the American Psychological Association.
Exercising her creative side, Dr. Davis authored "The Art of Success: Strategies on How to Obtain Your Dreams" in 2017. She also implemented a needs assessment to explore the lack of mental health interventions to Medicaid eligible providers in New York in 2014. She later wrote a bill to include mental health counselors, family therapists and psychoanalysis as part of the Medicaid Bill, which was signed into law in 2020.
In recognition for her excellent work in the mental health field, Dr. Davis received the City of New York Stop The Violence Award from then Mayor David N. Dinkins in 1995 and a New York State Assembly Citation from Assembly Member Alec Brook-Krasny in 2009. She was also honored with a City Council Citation from Council Member Domenic M. Recchia, Jr. and a Certificate of Merit from Senator Diane J. Savino, both in 2009. She was honored with a Health Award from the New York State Association of Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic and Asian Legislators in 2017. In 2022, she received a proclamation from the State of New York, a Women of Distinguished Award from the 46th District in New York, a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition and a City Council Citation.
Dr. Davis' current goal is to write a new book to teach children about stages of development, enabling them to understand their own growth. She intends for the book to help children learn skills and competencies so that they can grow into the next stage of development successfully, despite any crisis they may experience. Ultimately, she plans to advocate for the board of education to include the book into the school system for children to understand the psychological, physical and emotional aspects of life, resulting in a decrease of mental health issues and crime.
