An experienced nature photographer, Dr. Zurey founded Zurey Photography LLC in 2001. His prior experience includes 30 years as an engineer manager at Rocky Flats Plant, and he holds three degrees in metallurgical engineering, including a PhD from the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, as well as a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Since 2005, Dr. Zurey has also served as the awards and contest chairperson of Rocky Mountain Outdoor Writers & Photographers.
Dr. Zurey pivoted his professional focus to nature photography when the plant for which he worked for three decades suspended operations. The firm offered to fund former employees' continuing education, and Dr. Zurey took advantage of the opportunity to initiate a new career path. Upon crafting and refining a proposal, he earned a photography study grant and embarked on fresh creative objectives. Today, he maintains industry memberships in the North American Nature Photography Association, the Center for Fine Art Photography, Gilpin County Arts Association, Foothills Art Center, and the Texas Photographic Society. He also belongs to Rocky Mountain Outdoor Writers & Photographers.
