Drawing upon 40 years of expertise, Mr. Peterson specializes in education, vocal coaching, directing, acting and talent scouting. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he pursued a degree at Weber State College, where he began courses in music education and musical theater before joining the Army 1971-74. After the army he served a 2 year mission in Japan for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 1975-1977. From 1977 on, Mr. Peterson built a career as an actor, singer, music director, starting with the Jackson Hole Playhouse in Wyoming, Indiana. He achieved a bachelor's degree in Music Education from Indiana University in 1981. After teaching for 5 years, he continued his education at Indiana University Bloomington, earning a Master of Science in secondary education in 1988. From 1988 to 1995 he was employed by the Community Schools of Frankfort, Indiana, as the Choral Director and Stage Director of musicals and senior plays, the Big Broadcast variety show, Fforttisimo Show Choir (Frankfort's Finest) and began a 6th grade choir while aiding the gifted and talented program working with two of the high school teachers in the Special Education rooms. He holds a life license in choral vocal music, which is no longer granted.
Mr. Peterson attained his State of Indiana licenses in choral vocal music, music education, secondary education administration and Japanese language instruction in 1988, active with industry-related organizations: National Federation of Music Clubs, National Council of Japanese Language Teachers - serving as newsletter editor, board member and president. He was selected as Indiana All State Choir Zone 3 B conductor/coach, working on stage productions & musicals, collaborating with his wife Susan, for her dance recitals. During this time, he was active as a video producer, sound mixer; creating publicity, graphics and set designs at the Peterson Studio of Dance from 1988 until 2019, while being the owner and instructor of the Peterson Studio of Voice 1988 to present. While teaching Japanese in the Tippecanoe County School System, he became Member of American Association of Teachers of Japan, the Association of Indiana Teachers of Japanese as newsletter editor, and was the Indiana Foreign Language Teacher of the Year in 2003. All this while being music director and actor at the Red Barn Theater in Frankfort 1988-1995, singing with the Indianapolis Opera 7 Seasons: 1998-1999 Season: The Barber of Seville, The Flying Dutchman, Macbeth, 1999-2000 Season: Tosca, Faust, 2000-2001 Season: Don Giovanni, Il Trovatore, 2001-2002 Season: Aida (High Priest), Samson & Delilah, 2002-2003 Season: La Traviata, Die Fledermaus (Chorus, ballroom dancer & soloist), La Boheme, 2003-2004 Season- Rigoletto.
Between 2005-2010, he served Tippecanoe School Corporation as World Languages Department Chair, concurrently teaching Japanese at Harrison & McCutcheon High schools; teaching Japanese to Businessmen through Ivy Tech, IU Kokomo & Subaru Isuzu in Lafayette, 1997-2003. He was invited to IUPUI in 2013 to teach an UPWARD Bound Groups summer Japanese course at Indiana University-Purdue University in Indianapolis. He's gratified to have studied with both Miss Margaret Harshaw and Miss Marsha Baldwin, who were rostered with the Metropolitan Opera, mentoring him as mentors, influencing him on a professional and personal levels.
