Originally pursuing her career after a tenured position in real estate office management, she chose to help patients that had been through similar experiences as she had. After completing the necessary schooling, Ms. McClurg began working for her organization in 2003.
In addition to counseling patients, Ms. McClurg assists by helping them secure the necessary resources to continue progressing in life. She is also vigilant about separating her personal life from her career so that she can focus on the best interests of her clients. Grateful for her many professional experiences and for having helped so many patients and family members over the past two decades, Ms. McClurg emphasizes the importance of mental health not only for those grieving but also for those that have endured such traumatic events as abuse or illness.
Avid about contributing on behalf of her community, Ms. McClurg frequently volunteered her time with a local hospice facility. She also established a monthly social work group, for which she facilitated meetings and familiarized herself with the communities in which they lived to locate additional resources for members. To remain aware of developments in her field, Ms. McClurg is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Ms. McClurg is also a member and former secretary of the Phi Theta Honor Society.
Ms. McClurg obtained an associate degree in social work at Jackson Community College, where she was notably chosen to represent the USA Academic Team as one of just two students among approximately 6,000. She subsequently received a Bachelor of Science in social work at Spring Arbor University and a Master of Science in clinical/medical social work at Michigan State University before interning at a hospice.
