Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, he obtained expert knowledge pursuing an advanced degree in his field along with numerous certifications and recognitions.
Sikkens started his career as a technology architect by founding a consulting company in 1997. This company still operates 25 years later as We Are Technology, a go-to leader for business software. Notable clients over the years include Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Intel Corporation, VM Ware, several government agencies including The State of Nevada and many, many small businesses.
He continued his career by rising to leadership roles and working for several companies including Intel Corporation, Rittmeister Design and Cumulus Technology. During this time, he was honored with an award from Soroptimist International of the Americas in 1996.
He also created Client Vision (a very early SaaS application) and obtained a Patent in the compression field.
Since 2014, Sikkens has been a host and producer of the User Friendly Show, as an on-air personality for User Friendly Media Group, Inc. Also in 2014, he was named the World's Most Interesting Developer by Jelastic in recognition of his excellent work. Starting in 2015, he transitioned his business to the current setup as We Are Technology, Inc., and simultaneously serves as a technology architect for Infinite Legacy. In these positions, he works with clients and handles the duties of operating a successful business. To remain aware of developments affecting his field, he maintains membership in professional organizations including the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and IMDb.
A career in physics and advanced information technology requires mastery of many computer languages. These include PHP, HTML and CSS for the web, SQL and NoSQL environments for databases, C++, Rust for application and board level development, Java, Kotlin, Swift for mobile applications and many others. The industry is dynamic, which requires a constant updating of skills which lead to developing custom languages including Wanderer.
Having started working with technology and writing software in his youth, Sikkens credits his career success to his ability to keep up with technological changes. Looking toward the future, Sikkens plans to seek additional certifications to improve his skills. He is also considering taking an additional degree in robotics.
Outside of his work in the technology industry, Sikkens is a philanthropist. Sikkens has worked on many non-profit initiatives over the years. In 2022 Sikkens was elected to run his local Chamber of Commerce and in that capacity has directed a recovery from the disruption of COVID-19.
