Dr. Freeman-Nepay is the founder, chief executive officer, and executive director of the Baltimore International Academy Inc. She applies her broad expertise and innovative language immersion methods to expose students to multilingual options, including Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, Russian and French. Dr. Freeman-Nepay's exceptional academic credentials include a Doctor of Education in Global Education from the University of Southern California and a master's degree in Teaching of French as a Foreign Language, as well as a bachelor's degree in language sciences from the University of Franche Comte, Besancon, France and a Bachelor of Arts degree in French and Public Administration from the University of Liberia.
A native of Liberia, Dr. Freeman-Nepay enjoyed an exceptional education at Ricks Institute, a flagship school, where she received instruction in French. This exposure to the French language initiated her intense and ongoing interest in languages. Following this period, she seized the opportunity to study in La Cote d'Ivoire on an Ivoirian Government scholarship and subsequently traveled to France, where she began her graduate studies. Before founding her academy in 2007, Dr. Freeman-Nepay served as a language immersion teacher, coordinator, assistant principal, and Principal in Prince George's County Public School System in Maryland, USA.
Besides earning numerous recognitions over the years, in 2022, Freeman-Nepay received the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) Advanced and Gifted Education Local Leadership award and the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) Outstanding Administrator award. Dr. Freeman-Nepay is most proud to have created such a groundbreaking school. Its uniqueness resides in offering multilingual immersion in all seven Official United National Languages and International Baccalaureate Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes in a single location. Ultimately, Dr. Freeman-Nepay aspires to help others create educational institutions that allow open access to quality education and plans to continue mentoring social entrepreneurs in their quest to offer hope to the disenfranchised.
Dr. Freeman-Nepay maintains an active professional and academic network through ongoing memberships in the Maryland Alliance of Public Charter Schools and the American Association of Teachers of French.
