He initially earned a Bachelor of Science in industrial education from Rhode Island College in 1981 before obtaining a Master of Divinity in theology and counseling from Oral Roberts University in 1988. Following these accomplishments, he began his career as an adjunct professor for Johnson County Community College in 1995 prior to becoming a senior program manager for Sprint PCS in 2000. He found further success in several project management consultant roles for a number of companies, including ESG at the Georgia Department of Revenue, JMA at the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Information Technology Center, Computer Associates, JP Morgan Chase, Mail Print, First Watch, Bank of America, TIAA, Windstream, and Ahold Delhaize.
Likewise dedicated as a civil advocate, Mr. Flanagan volunteered with the Christmas in October program for the local Pro-Am Golf Tournament. He was a member of the Shawnee Mission School District School Site Council and holds a Kansas State Youth Soccer Association D license for coaching soccer. He has previously contributed to the family advisory board for Children's Mercy Hospital.
To further his expertise, Mr. Flanagan graduated with an Executive Master of Business Administration in leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2010. Following this accomplishment, he was appointed as a senior technical project manager of infrastructure for Genesis 10 at Bank of America in 2011. He accepted several administrative roles in the technology and banking industries, including working as a cyber-security specialist for Signature Consultants at Bank of America in 2016 and a SAFe scrum master for Modis at Lincoln Financial in 2019 and AIG in 2020. He is currently completing a Doctor of Business Administration in data analytics from Grand Canyon University in 2023 to prepare for his present and future positions.
Since 2019, Mr. Flanagan has been active as the founder of DevSmart. In this capacity, he oversees four teams, running scrum and conducting scrum ceremonies. He also serves as a data analytics project manager and scrum master for CRG and a project manager for Delhaize. For these companies, he manages multiple projects and teams to achieve the best and most efficient results.
Throughout his life, Mr. Flanagan has been honored with multiple accolades. In 1974, he received the Eagle Scout in Boy Scouts. He was recognized with the Most Outstanding Freshman award in Marching Band at Clemson University in 1977. In 1980, he was inducted into Epsilon Pi Tau for academic excellence at Rhode Island College. He was recognized as an Outstanding Young Man of America in 1988 and received an Entrepreneurial Achievement Award from the Kauffman Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership in 2002. In 2010, he was inducted into the Delta Mu Delta Eta Chi Chapter, the International Honor Society in Business Administration, in recognition of adding business acuity to his project management and scrum skills.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Flanagan intends to continue mentoring and teaching at a junior college or community college. He would like to devote the remainder of his career to teaching and mentoring rising professionals in his field.
