Ms. Vallejos is celebrated for 20 years of dedication to the field of respiratory therapy. Prior to her retirement in 2014 due to a work-related injury, she was a registered respiratory therapist for HealthEast Hospitals, where she was responsible for patient care that included managing ventilators, performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), administering nebulized medications, and assisting with bronchoscopies and endotracheal care. She considers saving lives to have been the most rewarding part of her career and she enjoyed watching her patients' health improve as a result of her care.
Ms. Vallejos became involved in respiratory therapy after working as a medical secretary. She loved the hospital setting; however, she desired to contribute to patients more tangibly. She considered both physical and respiratory therapy, eventually choosing the latter because she would be able to obtain her qualifications in two years instead of four. Ms. Vallejos earned an associate degree in respiratory therapy from St. Paul Technical Institute in 1988 and completed coursework at Bethel University.
Following her formal retirement, Ms. Vallejos addressed muscular issues within her own family. Due to her background in health care, she knew massage therapy would be beneficial, so she re-enrolled in school to learn the intricacies of massage. Since then, she has utilized her skills both inside and outside of the home, working for a time as a massage therapist at the Northstar Pain Care and Neurological Clinic. A diversified and successful professional, Ms. Vallejos attributes her success to her faith in God.
Ms. Vallejos is or has been a member of several important organizations relevant to her work, including Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals, American Association for Respiratory Care, and National Board for Respiratory Care. She has received certification as both a registered respiratory therapist and a massage therapist.
