After beginning her career as a speech pathologist, Ms. Gorman has found notable success as a franchise owner and the president of the largest franchise owners' group for Buff City Soap, which makes and sells handmade plant-based soap. Ms. Gorman, who was one of the company's first franchise owners in 2018, now owns locations in Tennessee, Alabama, Oklahoma, Illinois, Texas, Arkansas, Missouri and Wisconsin. She attributes much of her success to the wonderful colleagues with whom she works, as well as her strategy of surrounding herself with people whose intelligence she values. Ms. Gorman did not possess a business background prior to opening her first store, but sensed she would be a successful marketer because of her strong communication and interpersonal skills. When she opened a new location, she would introduce herself to a community on a small budget, making thousands of soap samples and distributing them at schools, hospitals, and hair and nail salons. These giveaways successfully generated excitement about the new business coming to town.
To commemorate her accomplishments with Buff City Soap, Ms. Gorman has received numerous awards. These include business of the year and entrepreneur of the year from the Covington Chamber of Commerce and small business of the year from the Dyersburg Dyer County Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to embarking on her current career path, Ms. Gorman worked as a speech pathologist at a special needs preschool, providing speech therapy to children with Down syndrome and autism spectrum disorder. She holds a Bachelor of Science in special education from the University of Tennessee at Martin and a Master of Science in speech-language pathology from Tennessee State University. Additionally, she holds a certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
