INDIANAPOLIS, IN, September 02, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to present Louise Elizabeth Goggans with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award. An accomplished listee, Dr. Goggans celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Goggans was a renowned dietitian, nutritionist, consultant and educator who devoted more than four decades to her career. Working in the hospital setting, she first served as a staff dietitian at the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in Hines, Illinois, and quickly advanced to the chief dietitian at Highland Park Hospital in Highland Park, Illinois. Dr. Goggans subsequently secured positions at other area facilities before joining Wishard Memorial Hospital as its director of nutrition services in 1973 where she spent the next 30 years. During her tenure, she was responsible for establishing its diet clinic and also taught as an assistant professor. Outside of her primary career endeavors, Dr. Goggans served as a marriage and family therapist and was a wedding coordinator for 20 years.
As an extension of her career, Dr. Goggans helped establish neighborhood health centers and a prenatal dietary program, conducted annual seminars for the diabetic population in Indianapolis, served as a consultant to the Indiana Minority Health Coalition Inc., the Indiana Advisory Council and the Central Indiana Council on Aging, and became involved on the board of directors of the Children's Bureau, Auntie Mame's Child Development Center and Alpha Home. She also became active as a volunteer at the Indiana Women's Prison and as a program volunteer for the American Heart Association. Most notably, Dr. Goggans had the opportunity to serve on the steering committee for the Central Indiana Area Agency on Aging, which is a nonprofit organization that provides services to the elderly. In this capacity, she was responsible for ensuring that the elderly citizens were receiving proper nutrition on a daily basis since they were very susceptible to malnourishment due to a lack of a support system at home. Dr. Goggans' role with the agency also led to her involvement in establishing a local Meals on Wheels chapter for area senior citizens.
Dr. Goggans pursued her formal education at Indiana University, where she received a bachelor's degree in home economics in 1956, a Master of Arts in education in 1969 and a Doctor of Medical Science in nutrition in 1982. Dr. Goggans is also notably a registered dietitian.
She still participates annually with the Diabetes Conference sponsored by the Indiana Minority Health Coalition. From 2018-2021, she co-chaired the Health and Wellness Committee for her Sorority Chapter, Alpha Mu Omega of Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. The organization had a number of Zoom programs via Facebook dealing with Covid as well as other health concerns in the community. She also held these same programs at local churches when asked, as there was great concern regarding Covid, especially when the vaccines became available.
During her professional career Dr. Goggans was very active with the American Diabetes Association, the Central Indiana District Dietetic Association, the American Dietetic Association, the American Association of Christian Counselors, and the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy.
Honoring her many years of hard work and diligence, Dr. Goggans was the recipient of a Distinguished Alumni Service Award from Indiana University Bloomington and received the same honor from Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. Among several other honors, she was named as the Outstanding Pearl Soror of the Year by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and was the recipient of an Indiana Distinguished Citizen Award from the Indianapolis Bicentennial Committee. Dr. Goggans attributes her success to the inspiration she received from her grandmother who taught her how to use roots, herbs, flowers and other plants for healing purposes when she was a child. Her mother also worked for a doctor in Anderson, Indiana, where she initially became fascinated by the power of healing the sick.
