James M. Parker, MD, FACC, FSCAI Established Himself as a Prominent Figure in Cardiology

    COVINGTON, LA, September 06, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- James M. Parker, MD, FACC, FSCAI has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As an interventional cardiologist with North Oaks Medical Center, Dr. James Parker helps patients recover from issues involving the human heart.

Looking back, Dr. Parker recalls two events that steered him into a medical career. One of these was his involvement in a serious accident that affected many other people, which first roused a strong desire in him to help people and acquire education in order to do so. That initial spark was reinforced when he reached high school, after his friend's father suffered a heart attack at a football game and collapsed next to him in the stands. Feeling helpless at not being able to do something for him and seeing the paramedics provide the medical attention he needed served as the impetus for his decision to become a doctor. Additionally, it sparked his interest in the heart. While studying in medical school and conducting research work, his fascination for cardiology only continued to increase until he resolved to specialize in the field.

Dr. Parker laid the foundation for a successful career in medicine with a strong education, earning a Bachelor of Science in zoology and animal biology from Louisiana State University in 1995, then a Master of Science in neuroscience, also from Louisiana State University, in 1999, and finally, a Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in 2004. Shortly thereafter, he became an internal medical resident in the Greater New Orleans area for three years, and a cardiology fellow for three years after that. In addition, he earned a board certification in internal medicine from the American Board of Internal Medicine in 2008, a board certification in cardiovascular disease, also from the American Board of Internal Medicine, in 2010, and a level two certification in CT angiography in 2021.

In recognition of his contributions to the health of his patients, Dr. Parker was named Physician of the Year by North Oaks Health System in 2019. His mentors include Dr. Luke Goancy, the head of the fellowship program who was instrumental in his training, and Dr. John Amos, the person that encouraged him to pursue a career in cardiology.

Dr. Parker credits his success to his hard work and perseverance, because the road to his medical degree took unexpected turns that made the journey a bit longer than he expected. Thankfully, the same drive and passion that drew him to pursue an education in medicine stayed with him and kept him advancing toward his goal. He sees himself continuing to serve cardiology patients in five years. He is very happy where he is and does not see a future of him doing anything different. He hopes to keep abreast with improvements in the field, and continue to utilize new ideas and programs that would further enhance the quality of his patients' lives.

In his spare time, Dr. Parker enjoys spending time with his wife, ChrisAnn Parker, their children, Justin, Jacob, Caleb, Kyle and Madison, and their one grandchild, Elaina.
