LEBANON, PA, September 08, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Laurie A. Crawford has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. With nearly 20 years of excellence to her credit in volunteerism and environmental work, Ms. Crawford utilizes her rich experience as a successful business owner. She has served as the owner, landscaper and gardener for Mae Marie Organics since 2016, where she strives to make a positive impact on her community while enhancing the ecosystem for pollinators, working collaboratively with nature to help preserve the environment.
Additionally, Ms. Crawford joined the Penn State College of Medicine in 2021 as a Research Project Manager funded by a REACH Grant to evaluate racial and ethnic approaches to community health. In this capacity, she works in communities where there are extant health disparities for certain ethnic groups in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, including Latino communities, establishing partnerships to uplift programs that can help resolve these disparities, including physical activity, food access and nutrition, breastfeeding and diabetes education.
Prior to serving in her current roles, Ms. Crawford began her career as an activities and volunteer coordinator for Homestead Village in 2003. She continued working there until 2005, taking time off from her professional endeavors to raise her children. She later became the Executive Director for the Lebanon Valley Conservancy Inc. between 2016 and 2021. To prepare for her career, Ms. Crawford earned a Bachelor of Arts in therapeutic and community recreation from York College of Pennsylvania. She gained a deep appreciation for parks and recreation, seeing firsthand the benefits of spending time surrounded by nature.
In addition to her main career, Ms. Crawford serves as a board member of the 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania and the Community Health Council of Lebanon County. She serves as the Secretary of the Lebanon Valley Bike Coalition and is the co-director of Lebanon Bicycle Recycle. This group collects donated bikes, repairs them and gives them back to community members.
Ms. Crawford intends to continue developing her skills in the future, including by pursuing a master's degree program. Her aim is to further explore the connection between food and health.
