MONTEBELLO, CA, September 09, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gloria C. Preza, PhD, MLS (ASCP)cm, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Having been interested in science and medicine from an early age, Dr. Preza operates as a clinical laboratory scientist for Pipeline Health System at East Los Angeles Doctors Hospital and at Keck Hospital of USC. She is also the program director for medical laboratory science training programs and an adjunct professor of microbiology and biology at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). Before stepping into these roles, she attended CSULA for 10 years, in which time she earned a Bachelor of Science in microbiology in 2002, a master's degree in biology in 2004, and a PhD in cellular and molecular pathology from UCLA in 2011.
Dr. Preza's career extends over 30 years, beginning with her time serving as a medic in the United States Army from 1990 until 1994. She found that many of the countries she visited suffered from poor health care services, which inspired her to pursue a career in which she could help improve such conditions. In addition to her professional positions, Dr. Preza is also recognized as a member of the American Society for Microbiology and the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS), and as an alum from the SACNAS Summer Leadership Institute from 2013. As a member of ASCLS, she has been involved in a great deal of volunteer work, aiming to improve diversity, inclusion and equality. Dr. Preza also performed volunteer work for The National Accreditation Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) which "is committed to being the premier agency for international accreditation of educational programs in the clinical laboratory sciences and related health care disciplines." In her community, she serves as Girl Scout leader to help encourage and motivate young girls.
Dr. Preza attributes her drive and success to her family. She was the first among her family to attend college and obtain the degrees she has achieved. She is particularly proud of how her career path has traveled full circle, starting as an undergrad and now acting as the director of her program at CSULA. Furthermore, she is gratified to hold a patent for mini-hepcidin peptides and the methods of usage thereof while working on her PhD at UCLA. Moving forward, Dr. Preza hopes to improve her station in the field of clinical science and expand CSULA's clinical laboratory science program.
Dr. Preza would like to recognize her husband (whom she refers to as "my rock") and her children, Anthony (MIT graduate), Elizabeth (U.S. Army National Guard, and college student), her 15 year old twins, and their 4 fur babies.
