She has held this position since 2007 and also serves as Stanford's American Language and Culture (ALC) program coordinator. Ms. Lockwood has held past appointments as an editor, including senior developmental editor for Elsevier from 2002 to 2007, and field editor and ESL consultant for McGraw Hill from 1994 to 2002. Her expertise lies in authoring textbooks, online course content and video programs relevant to writing, listening and speaking English courses and TOEFL preparation. Her scholarly works include "Flip It! Strategies for the ESL Classroom" and "Flipping the Classroom: What Every ESL Teacher Needs to Know," published by the University of Michigan Press, and "The 6 Principles for Academic and Other Specific Purposes," published by TESOL Press. Among her more than 50 textbooks, she is the author of several books in the Four Point series, "Leading Academic Discussions: What Every University Student Needs to Know," and "Speaking in Social Contexts." Ms. Lockwood is also a co-author for the Skillful series published by Macmillan and a series editor of the University Success series published by Pearson. Notably, Ms. Lockwood's work has also been published by Cambridge University Press, Oxford University Press, McGraw-Hill, National Geographic, and Pearson.
Throughout her academic career, Ms. Lockwood has earned numerous commendations, including being named as one of the Top 50 Flipped Learning Leaders in Higher Education Worldwide and serving as a co-chair for the Flipped Learning Global Standards Project Initiative. She is a frequent presenter at state, national, and international conferences and has been invited to speak at several universities throughout the United States. She has also served on the Boards for several education companies and programs. In 2021, she was nominated for the Distinguished Alumni Award at Northwest Missouri State University.
She credits her students' hard work and dedication as well as her parents esteemed teaching careers as the motivation behind her success, and she is eager to pursue more opportunities to train teachers.
