Supported by years of medical education and training in internal medicine and nephrology, Dr. Petrosyan has progressively ascended with outstanding patient care and leadership skills to becoming an academic clinical nephrologist and bedside proceduralist. She also serves as educator and mentor to medical and dental students at Harvard Medical School. Additionally, Dr. Petrosyan is a USMLE academic consultant for Kaplan Test Prep and the editor-in-chief of "In-House," The Online Magazine for Medical Residents and Fellows.
Dr. Petrosyan is board-certified in Internal Medicine, board eligible in Nephrology, and in process for certification in Point-of-Care Ultrasonography. She graduated with Summa Cum Laude and Honors in Biological Sciences from University of California, Irvine. She obtained her Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a merit-based scholarship at University of Central Florida College of Medicine followed by Internal Medicine residency at University of South Carolina, Prisma Health-Upstate and Nephrology fellowship at the combined Brigham and Women's Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital Joint Program. For her outstanding body of work, Dr. Petrosyan has been a recipient of competitive scholarships, such as the National ACP Certificate of Offices, Alumni Fellows Graduate Student Scholarship, the Kaiser Permanente Northern California Scholarship, the Maddie Katz Memorial Award, and the President's Volunteer Service Award. She was inducted into the oldest academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa, in 2010 and continued to be a mentor and dedicated teacher.
Dr. Petrosyan also received a certificate from Program in Clinical Effectiveness at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health and is currently enrolled in the Harvard Medical School Master in Clinical Service Operations program to acquire tools needed to incorporate innovation and evolve healthcare delivery. Quadrilingual (Russian, Armenian, Spanish, and English) and former refugee, Dr. Petrosyan is passionate about shaping the culture of medicine.
As Chair of the American College of Physicians (ACP) Council of Resident and Fellow Members, Regent, and Delegate to the American Medical Association, she leads advocacy efforts on behalf of trainees nationally, develops focused scientific sessions, and oversees membership outreach efforts unifying trainees across Internal Medicine and its subspecialties. Innovation in education and healthcare delivery are the key drivers in her current work of developing a point-of-care ultrasonography curriculum and evolving physical examination at Harvard Medical School and nationally. While her career has been filled with highlights, Dr. Petrosyan is most proud to have immigrated to the United States from Russia, without knowing a word of English, and following the examples of strength and perseverance of her mother and grandmother to becoming a third-generation female physician. In the coming years, she is committed to continue providing excellent patient care while evolving the practice of medicine.
