After the tragic events of 9/11, Ms. Capron realized that her moment to serve her country had come.
ABINGDON, MD, September 14, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Mandi Capron, Capt., Veteran U.S. Army Reserve has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
As a lead medical technologist for the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center, Mandi Capron led an exciting career of military service and medical expertise.
As a young woman, Ms. Capron was approached frequently by military recruiters, but at that time, when she was in high school, she knew that she did not feel ready to join. Instead, she felt drawn to medicine as a career path, though not necessarily in the way she originally intended. As she put it, "I had originally wanted to start out in veterinary medicine but I didn't get the chance to get into Cornell. So I switched my path and went to the University of Buffalo with the intentions of getting into pharmacy school. By that time I was married and had my daughter. I was put on the pharmacy school waiting list, but I didn't have that kind of time in my life at that moment because my daughter was still young. The dean at the pharmacy school recommended medical technology and that is where it has gone from there."
After the tragic events of 9/11, Ms. Capron realized that her moment to serve her country had come. She enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and served as a commissioned officer in the Medical Service Corps from 2005 until 2016, when she was honorably discharged. As thanks from a grateful nation, she was recognized for her support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. In addition to her service to the military, she has also been involved in a campaign to encourage people to donate to military personnel that serve overseas.
Since 2009, Ms. Capron has served as a medical technologist with the University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Medical Center. In that role, she has the opportunity to showcase her skills in high-complexity testing, equipment testing and calibration and regulatory compliance. She regularly analyzes tests on behalf of patients, including hematology, urinalysis, serology, histology and bacteriology examinations. She also analyzes blood samples by identifying and quantifying the different types of cells present in human blood. This involves the use of microscopic techniques and procedures, as well as various pieces of automated equipment and sophisticated computerized instruments. Additionally, she reviewed test results to confirm their accuracy. In cases where these test results produced irregular outcomes, she would diagnose causes of these irregularities.
In her spare time, Ms. Capron enjoys reading, listening to music, crafting models from wood and metal, birdwatching, boating, kayaking, traveling, enjoying the outdoors, doing yard work and hiking. Looking back over her life and career, she considers her raising her daughter, Brittny, to be her proudest achievement. When Brittny was a child, her father traveled a great deal for work, which meant that Ms. Capron often needed to do double-duty as a parent. Undaunted, she stepped up to the plate until her partner was able to "get off the road" and take a local job, enabling him to spend more time with his daughter while still supporting the family. Ms. Capron has no regrets about those difficult years, and she is immensely proud of the woman her daughter has become.
Looking to the future, Ms. Capron is considering retirement within the next 10 years. She is unsure of whether or not she wants to travel, or whether she will take a consulting job that will keep her in the industry, somewhat. Whatever she decides, she is unlikely to spend her time idly.
