HUTCHINSON, KS, September 14, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Robert E. Lee has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Lee is a retired band director who served the Goddard, Haven, Hutchinson and Little River school districts in Kansas for 43 years. As an educator, he taught instrumental music to students in elementary, middle and high school, and for many years, he also maintained an active performance career as a percussionist; in 2017 he retired from the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, a seat he had held since 1963, and is currently a percussionist with the Hutchinson Municipal Band and the Hutchinson Symphony Orchestra as well. Other ensembles with which he has been associated include the Wichita Musician's Association Concert Band, the Newton Mid-Kansas Symphony Orchestra and the Kansas Winds. Moreover, Mr. Lee was a staff member with the Kansas Lions Band for 25 years and he has served as percussion instructor for the High Plains Band Camp at Fort Hays State University and conductor of the Bronze Band.
Mr. Lee is active as an adjudicator in the Midwest, including Kansas and Oklahoma, and he is a sought-after clinician as well. He has an outstanding academic background, having earned a Master of Music Education from Wichita State University (formerly the University of Wichita) and a Bachelor of Science in music education from the same institution. He remains an active member of many relevant industry organizations, including the National Association for Music Education, the Phi Beta Mu International Bandmaster Fraternity, the Kansas Bandmasters Association, for which he served as president, and the Kansas Citizens for the Arts. He has held numerous leadership roles within the Kansas Music Educators Association, including the president, district band chair and state advocacy chair, and he is a life member of the National Association for Music Education.
Throughout his career, Mr. Lee has been honored with many prestigious awards, including the Outstanding Bandmaster Award from the Kansas Bandmasters Association and Phi Beta Mu in 1997. In 2007, he was proud to be inducted into the Kansas Music Educators Association Hall of Fame, and he was included in the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame in 2005. Mr. Lee's belief in the power of the arts to contribute to an outstanding life remains vivid. He is gratified that his children and grandchildren have followed his example of being active in the performing arts and in the education profession.
The steady support of fellow educators and his students have bolstered Mr. Lee's dedication to his vocations. He is proud of assembling quality ensembles that performed well and having taught young artists to excel in instrumental performance. Notably, some of his former students have pursued careers in music and still play professionally around the county. Looking toward the future, Mr. Lee aims to persist in his arts activities and continue making and teaching music.
