CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO, September 15, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Aaron R. Horrell has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With more than 50 years of experience as an artist, Mr. Horrell is distinguished for his role as owner of Painted Wren Art Gallery, which opened in 2010. Mr. Horrell has developed his own unique way of creating animal paintings that he calls "celebrations of life." He is known for his expertise in painting beautiful landscapes. The gallery, which is managed by Barb Bailey, sells original paintings, photographs, prints, graphite drawings, gifts and household items, such as goat milk soaps, children's books, pottery, quilts, coasters and note cards, all created and made by local artists.
To celebrate his state's 200th birthday, Mr. Horrell created the Missouri Bicentennial Mural. This project incorporated more participants than any other Bicentennial project in Missouri. Mr. Horrell drove over 8,000 across the state with his artist partner, Ms. Bailey, inviting artists and nonartists alike to paint a two-inch triangle-shaped section. In total, 16,116 people took part in painting the 12 feet by 30 feet mural, which was completed in 2021 and is now housed inside the Harry S Truman Building in Jefferson City, Missouri.
Mr. Horrell attributes his success to never giving up and being a self-taught artist. He started painting in 1971, after graduating from high school. He continued developing his skills while serving in the U.S. Navy, completing four murals, including one on the island of Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean. After his service ended, Mr. Horrell managed a dairy farm for several years, helped raise his four children and continued to paint at night. In addition to painting, he also writes poems and has written and illustrated several children's books with Ms. Bailey.
Throughout his career, Mr. Horrell has co-authored numerous books, including "Beyond the Vines at River Ridge Winery," "Remi Paints for His Friends (Remi the Great)," "Alison Barbaron's Awesome Book of Pictures," "Alison Barbaron Presents..., Vol. 1," "The Sky Story," "Grandma Groundhog and the Vacuum Cleaner," "Superbus, Where Are You Going? Vol. 1," and many more.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Horrell and Ms. Bailey began the Paint for a Cause project in 2015 at his gallery, giving members of the community an opportunity to paint on a canvas that will be donated to a local cause. In addition, he is a member of the Arts Council of Southeast Missouri, a member of the Best of Missouri Hands, past president and member of the Sikeston Art League, a member of the Cat Ranch Art Guild and a founding member of the International Society of Poets in Owings Mills, Maryland.
