Similarly, she oversees community-based mental health services for individuals and families, and supervises teams of clinical supervisors, consulting with community partners for the best outcomes for "at risk" youth and families. Dr. Giacobone enjoys giving back to the community by attempting to help and understand many of the unique challenges that face society. Alongside her work, Dr. Giacobone has a certified therapy dog who has joined the team of helping individuals. They contribute to the community through the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, VCU Dogs on Call, and Caring Canines.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Giacobone earned a Bachelor of Science in psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University, where she worked on the Violent Coping Project, thus igniting her interest in the field. Over the years, she has expanded upon her knowledge, earning a Master of Arts in clinical psychology from the American School of Professional Psychology and a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology from Walden University. Likewise, Dr. Giacobone is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Sex Offender Treatment Provider.
In a career filled with highlights, Dr. Giacobone is most proud of publishing articles on alternative treatment modalities, including eye movement desensitization and reprocessing. This process involves bilateral stimulation of the brain, which in turn helps the brain process traumatic events, allowing the opportunity for healing. While hard work and dedication have brought her far, she attributes her success to the guidance she received from her professional mentors, who have paved the way for psychology as a growing field. Looking toward the future, Dr. Giacobone intends to continue making an impact on the population served by advocating for long-term systemic change that continues to promote healing.
