After a long and successful career as a police officer for the cities of Lincoln and Kearney, Nebraska, Ms. Wentz retired from law enforcement. Shortly thereafter, she opened her own business in 2021, a family-owned quilt shop that has attained great popularity. Located in Kearney, The Quilter's Cottage offers customers the ability to shop in-store or online and carries a large selection of products and notions, which range from quilting cottons, kits, yarns and patterns to books and more. Ms. Wentz also hosts classes through which customers can learn the basics of quilting, knitting and other crafts.
Overseeing daily operations alongside her husband and co-owner, Ms. Wentz was grateful for the opportunity to take over the business from its former owner and for being able to continue the tradition of serving local customers. She attributes her good fortune to her propensity for hard work, which was instilled in her by her parents, and her intrinsic perseverance. Looking toward the future, Ms. Wentz aims to continue expanding her selection of products and services and remain a lucrative business for years to come.
When Ms. Wentz is not busy at the shop, she frequently contributes to local charitable organizations by donating quilts and serving as a store sponsor and a member of a Local Quilts of Valor Group. Additionally, she is involved with various dog rescue organizations. To enhance her local involvement and better support her business, Ms. Wentz is a member of her local chamber of commerce and the Better Business Bureau.
Ms. Wentz studied at Hastings College, where she received a bachelor's degree in marketing, with a minor in advertising and public relations. During a summer break, while working at a local convenience store, it was robbed – the experience led her to pursue a career in law enforcement after graduation. Ms. Wentz has also received and maintained certification as a personal trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine.
