Dr. Zaw has served as the president and chief executive officer of the Asian American Chamber of Commerce of Greater Philadelphia since 2021. In this capacity, she collaborates with the city's Office of Economic Affairs, as well as elected officials who represent Philadelphia and, along with fundraising efforts, acts as a liaison for corporate sponsors to ensure that allocated funds make a positive impact on regional small businesses.
Dr. Zaw brings broad academic achievements to her role, including a Doctor of Philosophy in Human Security and a Master's degree in International Relations and Affairs, both from the University of Tokyo, where she studied as a Japanese Government scholar. She went to Dagon University in Yangon for her Bachelor's degree in International Relations Studies, and Yangon Institute of Economics for a Bachelor of Business Studies and Master of Business Administration.
A spirit of entrepreneurism is prevalent in Dr. Zaw's professional history. For example, she is the co-founder of Khinez Organics, a venture that was initiated in 2021, and in 2016, she founded Khineder Creations LLC in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. Her varied background also includes a role as the chief administrative officer of the Refugee Coordination Committee in Japan from 2009 through 2013, and service as a lecturer in the Cross-Cultural Education Program of the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology and Culture of Japan between 2008 and 2011. Concurrently, Dr. Zaw was also a news reporter for Nippon Hoso Kyokai of the Japan Broadcasting Corporation in Tokyo from 2007 until 2011.
Several related experiences helped in shaping Dr. Zaw's approach to business, including internships with the International Organization for Migration and for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. She also sustains valuable networks via memberships with such organizations as the Lehigh Valley Launchbox Ladies Program, United Way-Women United of the Lehigh Valley, Sunday Breakfast Club, Healthy NewsWorks and Consulor Corps Association of Philadelphia. Dr. Zaw also remains committed to volunteerism, donating her time to mentoring students, and offering free yoga classes to raise mental health awareness. She speaks regularly at conferences and shares her experience in working with internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, migrant workers, children and young adults that survived sex trafficking and meetings with professionals in conflict-torn nations including Rwanda, Myanmar, Tunisia and Lebanon.
Dr. Zaw has been recognized for her work by being included in the Forty Under 40 list by Lehigh Valley Business in 2019. Furthermore, in 2017, she was named as the Entrepreneur of the Year by the Lehigh Valley Happening List. Looking toward the future, Dr. Zaw plans to persist in supporting Asian Americans in her community as they seek out appropriate resources for personal and professional growth, and aims to continue nurturing a healthy balance between her personal life and career.
