Ms. Boyd earned a bachelor's degree in nursing science in 1975 from the University of Vermont. She subsequently began her career as an operating room staff nurse and advanced surgery coordinator for St. Luke's Hospital, where she facilitated the creation of a Center of Excellence in emerging minimally invasive practices. Over the years, she gained valuable experience in nurse management with Cooley-Dickinson Hospital, where she oversaw a unit that conducted more than 6,000 procedures per year. Similarly, she served as the director of surgical services for Pen Bay Medical Center, for which she played a role in the construction of a four-room operating suite, a two-room endoscopy suite, a minor surgery room and an ambulatory surgery unit.
For over twenty years Ms. Boyd aligned with Miles Memorial Hospital and Maine Medical Center, where she worked concurrently. Via her nursing roles, she provided care across all specialties in the OR with a personal interest in trauma. These diverse settings afforded the opportunity to follow both a passion for rural health as well as cutting edge emerging technology and practices in a large magnet tertiary teaching medical center. She now practices as a registered nurse with Acuity International at the Diplomat Support Hospital, where she cares for trauma emergencies, updates capabilities regarding supplies and equipment, and collaborates with multidisciplinary teams.
Ms. Boyd is a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses. Though her career has been filled with standout moments, she is most proud of adapting to advancements in technology and building collaborative professional relationships. Looking toward the future, Ms. Boyd aims to continue practicing internationally enjoying cross cultural exchange and consulting.
