ANNANDALE, VA, September 30, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Pier Angeli Broadnax, PhD, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Leveraging years of expertise in the field of health care, Dr. Broadnax has served as the program director of nursing for the University of the District of Columbia, a public historically Black land-grant university in Washington, D.C., since 2010. Experienced in academia, she previously chaired the undergraduate nursing program at Howard University, served as the administrator of the school nurse program at the Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., held a courtesy appointment at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut and was appointed as a Visiting Research Professor at the Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile in Santiago, Chile. In the field, Dr. Broadnax also functioned as a registered nurse and assistant director of health services for the D.C. Department of Corrections. In this capacity, she was instrumental in the oversight of both nurses and physicians.
Outside of her responsibilities at the university, Dr. Broadnax has earned distinction as the president of the Black Nurses Association of the Greater Washington, D.C., Area Inc., a nonprofit organization that is devoted to providing services to nurses and the community, as well as unity among African American nurses. She has also availed herself as the nurse co-leader for the District of Columbia Action Coalition since 2012, an organization whose mission is to serve the public by encouraging health through collaboration with nurses, communities and stakeholders.
Among other civic interests, Dr. Broadnax has lent her time and expertise on the board of the Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities, a nonprofit advocacy organization headquartered in Washington, D.C. She also served as a co-lead for the COVID Task Force at Warner Baptist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. Furthermore, Dr. Broadnax has sat as a charter member of the Mayor's Health Policy Council for the District of Columbia.
In preparation for her career, Dr. Broadnax acquired a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Winston-Salem State University in 1977. She subsequently received a Master of Science in Nursing at Hampton University in 1983 and a Doctor of Philosophy in nursing and health policy development at George Mason University in 1993.
In addition to her educational pursuits, Dr. Broadnax serves as an at-large board member for the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. Honoring her expertise, she was recognized by the National Black Nurses Association of Greater Washington Dc Area Inc. in 2016 and by the National Black Nurses Association as the Nurse Educator of the Year in 2022.
