Since 2008, he has worked as the owner of Ellery and Company. In this capacity, he focuses his efforts on providing services in accounting, taxes, auditing, payroll and financial planning. Over the course of his career, he has settled over 20 years of Internal Revenue Service audits at the appeals and competent authority levels. He also helped to establish the first major manufacturing Foreign Trade Zone in the United States.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Ellery began his career as a co-op student with Ford Motor Company for three years and subsequently worked with Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Ltd until becoming tax manager at American Motors in 1971. Following this time, he was the director of taxes and customs for Volkswagen of America Inc. for more than a decade, after which he established an accounting firm, where he worked until 2005. Mr. Ellery subsequently functioned as the district manager for Fiducial Business Centers (Fiducial SA), a global accounting firm owned by Christian Latouche, of Paris, France, one of the wealthiest men in the world. Additionally, Mr. Ellery served as the president of the Burton Chamber of Commerce and the president of the World Trade Club of Detroit. Demonstrating his continued commitment to civic engagement, he is also a board member for the Greater Detroit Chamber of Commerce.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Ellery earned a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Michigan in 1963. He went on to attain a Master of Science in taxation at Walsh College in 1965. Well-qualified in his field, he is a certified financial adviser, licensed real estate broker, Level 4 assessor, and certified public accountant. Within the coming years, he intends to take a step back from his current workload, but plans to continue his work auditing funeral homes in Michigan.
