Ms. Miller began her education at Tennessee State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 1995, completed requirements for licensure in secondary education at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN in 1998, and earned a Master of Business Administration in Project Management through the Florida Institute of Technology in 2011. During the early stages of her career, Ms. Miller gained valuable professional expertise in education, serving as a biology and physical science teacher for Memphis City Schools. Her undergraduate academic path led to progressive professional opportunities in pharmaceutical sales with Glaxo Smith Kline, Pharmaceuticals where she received numerous awards for building market shares within her territory while providing exceptional service. Because of the desire to help her community, Lori returned to the public school system as a college and career advisor, and community engagement specialist to where she was able to increase the college acceptance rate for high school juniors and seniors from 8% to 76% with the remaining students receiving technical and trade acceptance in the areas of automotive, electrical, and construction. She was successful in expanding the college acceptance, scholarship, and technical career opportunities for these students by establishing school and community partnerships with local businesses and post-secondary institutions across the country. She exposed her students to academic platforms along with opportunities that focused on the students' needs while she coached them on how to achieve their goals with character and professionalism.
Ms. Miller is currently employed as a Safety Training and Development Specialist III with Memphis Light Gas & Water Division (MLGW), located in Memphis, TN. MLGW is the largest three-service municipal utility in the nation, serving more than 440,000 customers, and providing careers for over 2,700 employees. This unique opportunity allows her to serve MLGW employees by providing access to safety needs that protect them along with the citizens of Memphis and Shelby County, TN. Ms. Miller has continued her personal development in the areas of safety and training earning certifications in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to include OSHA 10, 30, 501, 510, 511, and 503 through Southeastern OSHA Training Institute for The University of Tennessee CIS, Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, and National Incident Management System (NIMS) through the U.S. Department of Labor. She is also recognized as a certified professional consultant through the Training Clinic, LLC.
Her role as Training and Development Specialist has fostered meaningful conversations with company leadership to solve complex concerns related to employee training needs, technology advancement, new safety trends, and bridging the gap for finding future skilled workers fresh from high school with the dual enrollment in addition to career and technical education programs in Shelby County.
With over 20 years' experience in education, training, human relations and development, she has honed her oral and written communication skills to develop students and employees, strengthen company relations, and provide opportunities for personnel development, growth, and change. Her career experience and expertise include business ownership, managing, training, and overall operations to ensure diversity, equity, inclusion, and effective leadership.
