Reverend Sheila Acevedo Limontas Recognized for Excellence in the Nonprofit Industry

Ms. Limontas lends years of varied expertise to her work with Angela's G.E.M.M.S. Inc.

    DELRAY BEACH, FL, October 11, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Reverend Sheila Acevedo Limontas has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Drawing on years of professional experience, Reverend Acevedo Limontas presently excels as co-founder and president of Angela's G.E.M.M.S. Inc. (Global Educational and Multilingual/Multicultural Services) which provides humanitarian services to underprivileged women, children, elders and families in Haiti and Southeast Florida. Additionally, she is the Vice President of the South Florida Haiti Project, addressing the educational and humanitarian needs of students at the Bon Samaritan School in Haiti and their community. Previously, she volunteered as an education and community linkages adviser for the Haitian American Solidarity Center, Palm Beach County, Florida, an educational advisor for Operation Restoration Christian School, Trench Town, Jamaica, and the Goodwill Ambassador for the Real Life Children's Ranch, Okeechobee, Florida. She further served as on the Advisory Board and as a Script Editor for the Annenberg/CPB, Connect with English (a WGBH, Boston and McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc.). During the early stages of her career, Reverend Acevedo Limontas gained valuable expertise in the fields of English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) at all levels of student education, professional educator development, and literacy with the School Districts of Orange County Public Schools and Palm Beach County, Florida, the University of South Florida, the Florida State University, the University of Florida, Nova Southeastern University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Florida International University as an adjunct professor, advisor, and curriculum developer. Similarly, she has dedicated herself to the ministries of St. George's Episcopal Church, St. Mark's Episcopal Church and St. Francis Catholic Church in Apopka, Florida.

In conjunction with her work, Reverend Acevedo Limontas has contributed to her community through various organizations, including the Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach County, the Human Trafficking Coalition of Palm Beach County, and the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida. She is a lifetime member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. She is a member of the TESOL International Association, founding member and fifth president of Sunshine State TESOL, as well as a founding member of Orange County and Palm Beach County, Florida, TESOL local organizations.

Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Reverend Acevedo Limontas earned a Master of Education in English education from the University of Central Florida in 1977. She complete all course work and examination for a Doctor of Philosophy in Multilingual/Multicultural Education and statistics from Florida State University in 1981. To further her expertise in the field, Reverend Acevedo Limontas completed all courses and examinations for Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University in 2009. The Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida ordained Rev. Acevedo Limontas in 2016, following her Lay Ministry for more than 30 years within the Catholic Diocese of Orlando, the Episcopal Diocese of Orlando, and the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida, within which she completed her studies and bridge ministry prior to ordination.

Due to her wide range of knowledge, Reverend Acevedo Limontas was featured in the book, "Two Thousand Notable American Women" and wrote her master's degree thesis titled "A Survey of Florida Migratory Compensatory Education Regional Directors and ESOL Teachers." In a career filled with highlights, she is most proud of working with migrant, immigrant and refugee students within Florida, Florida School Districts, and many communities. She served at all levels, volunteering, teaching, developing, and administering programs during the initial stages of her career. She established programs models for adjudicated and non-adjudicated youth and adults, including migrants, immigrants, refugees, and other speakers of English as an additional language. She further wrote ESOL curriculum for the State of Florida, Orange County Public Schools, and the School District of Palm Beach County. Further, she was a team developer for the English for Speakers of Other Languages Teacher Examination. To commemorate her professional achievements, Reverend Acevedo Limontas won the Human Progress Award through the Haitian American Solidarity Center, a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition from Congresswoman Lois Frankel, Florida, and a Business Leader Volunteer of the Year Award through the School District of Palm Beach County. She earned five Florida Adult and Community Education awards, a Federal Department of Education award for the Job Site English Project, and Awards of Excellence from both Orange and Palm Beach County Florida School Districts.

Reverend Acevedo Limontas attributes her success to her faith and resilience. Looking toward the future, she aims for G.E.M.M.S. to continue serving in Haiti and Southeast Florida to empower people by lifting them up through education, humanitarian, and multilingual/multicultural connections, and services.
