Before embarking upon his professional journey, Dr. Hernandez received a bachelor's degree from Angelo State University in 1991. Subsequently, he received a Doctor of Medicine from the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine in 1996 and completed a residency in internal medicine in 1999 and a fellowship in rheumatology in 2001 through Baylor College of Medicine. Likewise, he has been board certified in rheumatology. To remain abreast of ongoing industry changes, he maintains professional affiliation with the American College of Rheumatology, the Texas Medical Association and the Harris County Medical Society. He is also a fellow of the American College of Rheumatology.
As a result of his outstanding body of work, Dr. Hernandez earned a GlaxoSmithKline Award in 2001. Though his career has been composed of numerous highlights, he is especially gratified by his tenure as a faculty member at the Baylor College of Medicine. To this end, he notes that the cornerstone of his success has been in perfecting his craft as a physician.
