Nazar Salih earned the Best Project Management and Design Award from the State of Michigan, as well as the Best Teacher Awards at Wayne State University two years in a row.

During the early stages of his career, he worked in various educational and engineering managerial positions for the University of Alabama civil engineering department, Wayne State University Department of Civil Engineering, BEI Associates and Wayne County Department of Public Services. Prior to obtaining his current position, he gained valuable expertise in the civil engineering field as a division structural engineer for Wayne County. He retired from Wayne County after 26 years of service. He entered the private sector and worked for Flour Corporation as a quality assurance manager for the Gordie Howe international bridge-U.S. Interchange at Bridging North America for a year.
Drawing on years of professional expertise in civil engineering, Mr. Salih presently excels as a senior project manager for Alfred Benesch & Company Benesch - Professional Services Firm. His clientele includes County of Wayne of Michigan and the City of Pontiac, where he oversees the management of various infrastructure projects.
Originally hailing from Kurdistan of Iraq, Mr. Salih arrived in the United States with the intent of receiving an education before leaving to help improve the infrastructure of his home country. However, he was unable to return due to the war-torn nature of the region. In conjunction with his work, Mr. Salih has contributed to his community as the vice president of the Kurdish National Congress and the Omar Center for understanding and awareness. Additionally, he has volunteered with Adopt-a-Mile, a community service that Wayne County actively advertises.
An expert in his field, Mr. Salih holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in civil engineering and structure through the University of Alabama at Birmingham. To remain aware of ongoing industry changes, he aligns himself with the American Public Works Association and the Conference of Minority Transportation Officials and attends a variety of continuing education in the field of structures and management. In recognition of his outstanding body of work, he has been honored many times, earning the Best Project Management and Design Award from the State of Michigan, as well as the Best Teacher Awards at Wayne State University two years in a row.
Though his career has been suffused with highlights, Mr. Salih is most proud to have served as a mentor for other engineers. Within the coming years, he intends to experience the continued growth and success of his career. Ultimately, Mr. Salih aims to complete his mission with Alfred Benesch & Company before returning to academia so he can share his knowledge with burgeoning industry professionals.
