Dr. El Khoury leverages more than two decades of experience in her role as the founder of Yogamazia, a yoga studio that specifically caters its services to pregnant women, children and families. Grateful to have discovered such an effective avenue toward fostering a more balanced and holistic world, Dr. El Khoury has likewise found success as a global ambassador for Yoga Gives Back, a nonprofit organization that has spread to 30 countries throughout the world and supported underprivileged children and mothers in India with micro-loans and educational opportunities. Outside of her work as an evangelist for the practice of yoga, she has served as a part-time health and wellness educator on behalf of the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia since 2022. In this role, she specializes in community education and works alongside the hospital's Behavioural Health Wellness Equity for a Healthy Life program.
Dr. El Khoury's career in the health and wellness fields began in the early 2000s, when she graduated from the University of the West Indies in St. Augustine, Trinidad, with a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy. Upon completing her undergraduate studies, she took a position as a pharmacist, but pivoted years later to work as a medical program clinical specialist for Merck & Co., Inc. After earning a Master of Science in health sciences, clinical leadership and clinical research administration from the George Washington University in 2005 and a Doctor of Philosophy in public health and epidemiology from Walden University in 2010, she advanced to increasingly senior positions in her field. She worked with other leading pharmaceutical companies including Eli Lilly & Co., GlaxoSmithKline, Novartis and Daiichi Sankyo Inc., specializing in oncology global medical affairs. Based on her positive experiences with yoga during pregnancy, she established Yogamazia in 2020.
Among her many career achievements, Dr. El Khoury is proud to have played a part in launching cancer treatments that have impacted the lives of many. Known for her scholarly output, she authored numerous abstracts and delivered many oral presentations and posters on the subjects of cancer, health outcomes and epidemiology. She was part of a panel discussing decolonizing integrative health in the community at this year's Integrative Medicine for the Underserved conference. To remain aware of developments affecting her fields, she maintained affiliation with a number of relevant organizations, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the European Society for Medical Oncology, the International Society for Pharmacoeconomics and Outcomes Research, the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer, the Association of Clinical Research Professionals, the Society of Clinical Research Associates and the American Pharmacists Association.
In honor of her outstanding accomplishments, Dr. El Khoury was most recently named as one of Yoga Gives Back's Ambassadors of the Year 2022. Previously, she was bestowed with a number of accolades across the span of her work in pharmaceutical science, including an Eli Lilly & Co. Recognition Award, a GlaxoSmithKline North America Regional Medical Excellence Award, a Merck Special Achievement Award for the EEMEA region, and a Daiichi Sankyo Inc. Award of Excellence.
In accounting for her success, Dr. El Khoury credits her continuous resilience, having overcome numerous obstacles as both an immigrant and a person of color. Looking toward to the future, she hopes to offer her love and support to her children and students as they navigate life's challenges and achieve greater prosperity through Yogamazia's mission. Furthermore, she eagerly anticipates the publishing of her book collaboration, "We Rise in Power: Amplifying Women of Color and Her Voices for Change," in early 2023.
