Prior to her current role, Ms. Kern began her career as a mechanical engineer for application engineering and operations for Rockwell Collins in 1997. She was promoted in 2004 to a senior mechanical engineer for integrated and government systems and subsequently to the engineering and technology department of the company's Advanced Technology Center in 2007. She continued her career working in soldier and government systems at Rockwell Collins in 2010 for a year and then design to cost engineering in 2011. She joined the rapid prototype and fabrication team in the company's Advanced Technology Center in 2013, becoming the manager of that team a year later. Due to company reorganization, she joined the Communication and Navigation team of Collins Aerospace in 2018.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Kern earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the University of North Dakota in 1997. She holds a patent, "Low-Cost Ultra-Wideband BAVA Egg-Crate Chassis," which she registered in 2014. In recognition of her excellent work, she was honored with an Above And Beyond Award from Collins Aerospace in 2019.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Kern is considering retirement, having left a legacy of dedicated work. She plans to spend more time with her family, especially her grandchildren, focusing more on consulting. However, in the near future, Ms. Kern intends to continue her work while mentoring the new generation of engineers.
