As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Nunes retired as the president and chief executive officer of the Cleveland Institute of Art in 2022. In this capacity, he oversaw numerous projects to fruition, including the stabilization of the school's finances. He also contributed to the completion of a $75 million capital campaign and to the relocation of the campus to central Cleveland, where the institution saw substantial growth and expansion via a successful $100 million fundraising effort. Mr. Nunes also headed two accreditations, maintained a stellar faculty and helped increase the student body population from 450 to 650.
A deliberate dedication to higher education shaped Mr. Nunes' professional journey. He was the founding dean of the School of the Arts of Emerson College in Boston from 1998 through 2010. Previously, he functioned as the associate dean of the School of the Arts at Columbia University from 1989 to 1997. Mr. Nunes is proud to have been the first of his family to complete a college education. Moreover, he prides himself on producing quality work while being mindful of budget constraints. He is a visionary recruiter, and his diverse business opportunities have positioned him to recognize, hire and mentor outstanding personnel across a variety of circumstances. Moreover, Mr. Nunes aptly identified significant talent in female applicants and consistently promoted well-qualified women to management roles.
Mr. Nunes has been recognized for his accomplishments, including with the Robert P. Bergman Award of the Cleveland Arts Prize. In part, he attributes his success to his willingness to seek out critical responsibilities and accept broad challenges. He has also sustained important business and academic contacts through key board positions with the Cleveland Arts Prize since 2022, New Bridge, an after-school art program for inner-city youth and a training program for inner-city adults seeking careers in health care, since 2013, and CARTA, since 2010.
