HUDSON, NC, October 27, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Jessica Smith Bumgarner has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
A registered nurse for more than a decade, Ms. Bumgarner has been treating patients at the Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory, North Carolina, since 2010. As an expert in cardiology, specifically heart failure and stroke, she frequently provides education and expertise to her patients and their family members. She also serves as the hospital's discharge navigator, heart failure and stroke coordinator, and, as the ventricular assist device coordinator, is responsible for monitoring patients that require the device or are on the heart transplant list. Additionally, Ms. Bumgarner plays a significant role as the chair of the ethics committee where she manages conflicts in care between physician recommendations, nurses, patients, and their loved ones.
Since becoming a registered nurse, Ms. Bumgarner has been instrumental in establishing a standalone heart failure clinic at the Frye Regional Medical Center. She has also been credited with creating a program for patients that is both innovative and patient-driven. Outside of her primary career objectives at the hospital, Ms. Bumgarner frequently educates the community on heart failure, stroke, and heart attack at local health fairs and festivals. She also volunteers her time by providing health education to the local senior citizen center, students in the community and at Flemings Chapel Baptist Church where she is a notable member. Fortunate to have found a profession that she is very passionate about so early on in her career, Ms. Bumgarner is grateful to be surrounded by a large network of seasoned physicians that have provided her with mentorship and encouragement.
Looking toward the future, Ms. Bumgarner envisions continually progressing in her field, while also helping to develop transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (EMCO) at her health care facility. She also plans to start her own cardiology boot camp for nurses who share the same passion for cardiology. Once she completes her master's degree, Ms. Bumgarner also aims to acquire a leading position as the chief nursing officer so that she can be more influential in the nursing field and have the opportunity to oversee a much larger cardiology program.
Ms. Bumgarner recently submitted several abstracts to various professional organizations, including the Preventive Cardiovascular Nurses Association (PCNA), with the hopes of having the chance to speak at professional conferences. Ms. Bumgarner also desires to have her educational methods, which have been written about in detail in her abstracts, become recognized as a standard multidisciplinary approach to patient education.
Ms. Bumgarner received a Bachelor of Science in nursing at Lenoir-Rhyne University in 2010 and is presently pursuing a master's degree in health care administration at the University of Phoenix. Well-qualified in her field, she received certification as a heart failure nurse in 2019 and is preparing for board certification in cardiology in 2023. As a part of her professional commitments in the field, Ms. Bumgarner is an active member of the PCNA and the Heart Failure Society of America.
In light of her achievements, Ms. Bumgarner has been recognized with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses by The DAISY Foundation and was twice named as the Nurse of the Year by the Frye Regional Medical Center. Furthermore, Ms. Bumgarner has been chosen as one of the Great 100 Nurses of North Carolina and has also been featured in various local publications, including the Hickory Daily Record, which honored her as the Notable Neighbor of the Quarter.
