Robert L. Giron always had a passion for the written word, citing Walt Whitman as his reason for pursuing poetry. He has been a writer since the age of 16 and five decades later, he has never stopped supporting and championing the literary arts. Today, he remains a notable member of the Academy of American Poets, the Association of Writers & Writing Programs and the Authors Guild.
At the start of his professional endeavors, Mr. Giron earned a Bachelor of Arts in linguistics from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1973. The next year, he taught as an English lecturer at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, where he had also achieved a Master of Arts in teaching English as a second language by 1975. In addition, Mr. Giron has also earned a certificate in literature from the University of Cambridge and has completed training in communications and publications management.
After obtaining his master's degree, Mr. Giron returned to teaching and excelled as an English professor at varying collegiate institutions, including El Paso Community College, St. Mary's University, Austin Community College and George Washington University. Simultaneously, he gained expertise as the associate editor for the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. In 1986, Mr. Giron joined the faculty at Montgomery College, where he dedicated a notable three decades to serving as a professor and chairperson within the English Department.

A prolific writer, Mr. Giron considers his greatest achievement, aside from helping aspiring writers and owning a longstanding literary press, as having earned the 2009 National Best Book Award for Fiction & Literature: Anthologies from USA Book News for the book he edited, "Poetic Voices Without Borders." Works to his own authorship credit include, "Metamorphosis of the Serpent God," "Songs for the Spirit," "Wrestling with Wood," "Recuerdos (Memories)" and "Impressions Françaises (French Impressions)," among other poetry and prose works that have appeared in numerous publications. He also served as founder and editor-in-chief of The Sligo Journal from 2010 to 2018 at MC and Chrysalis from 1979 to 1981 at EPCC.
Backed by numerous achievements, Mr. Giron was also presented with the Faculty Outstanding Service Award from Montgomery College twice, in 2002 and 2011, as well as a Special Faculty Recognition Award and Effective Team Award. Additionally, he has taken home the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development Excellence Award from the University of Texas at Austin in 1997 and 2002. Mr. Giron attributes his success to his tenacity and his dedication to following through with his ideas. Looking toward the future, he intends to finish his own major work of fiction.
